Bigger fog lights to visually balance huge front grille?

I'm sure the oem fog lights work fine, but I wonder if adapting larger lights would make the car look better- the front grill is huge. Also I suppose adding lights is a bit WRC-inspired.

Of course, this would depend on there being enough space behind the grill.

Below I show three different sizes, the smallest about 5" dia, the largest about 6" dia.

That looks like where the crash bar sits so you might have problems trying to flush mount them there.

In the OP I think the second size fits that space the best, the gap around the 5" makes it look like an afterthought and so does the 6" overflowing the area. Finding 5.5" lights might be tricky though. But then comparing them to the headlights, which are quite small, even the 5" ones look a little disproportionate.

I personally have no problem cutting into the black grill plastic to do a nice integrated light upgrade. That grill will certainly be a readily available replacement part if you ever wanted to go back to stock.

Here are a few more versions, and a closeup of the grille. 5.75 is a standard headlight size, used on many older cars with 4 headlights.

JW Speaker makes some very high quality lights in many sizes. Not cheap though. Products – J.W. Speaker

And some with the lights moved inboard. Again, not sure if any of these location will work, depends on what's behind the grille, and obviously you don't want to reduce the airflow through the radiator and intercooler, etc.

Standard diameter on LED projector fogs seems to be 3" & 2.5" . I don't know how the performance is affected if you drop to the 2" that look to fit a Corolla opening. But although listed as fogs, these have low and high beam patterns,
so they'd be driving lights, and the stock location is going to put the beams pretty low.
I'm not ordering anything until I know the depth behind the grille. Doubtless these are not DOT legal.

Edit; there is depth to fit these in the stock fog location if you spend some time on grille trimming and bracketry and don't mount them to low.

IDK, I love the old school "rally" look with the huge foglights. The Evo 4-6 and the GC Impreza come to mind. I understand the LED projectors would probably have a better output, but doesn't have the "look" I prefer.
I would just go with the 5.5" halogen housings and retrofit a LED/HID projector into the housing and bam, best of both worlds.

Man. I'm really like the 4.0 to 5.0 inch sizes in the factory location. Hoping someone here can make this happen and do a job that's clean looking in this regard.

My choice of light would the the Wagner 4509 sealed beam. They're aircraft landing gear lights, If memory serves they're 4 inch diameter. 13v light, 100 watt spot beam (11 degree beam angle). They would be triggered by the high beams. This is the setup I ran on my old Jetta nestled behind the lower grille opening. HUGE amounts of down- road light in rural areas.

They're cheap too.

Yeah, I think I like the 4”-5” size the best.

According to the spec sheet on your link, those old school landing lights are 4.5” and 100 watts- that’s 8 amps each, I hope to find some LED lights instead.

I'm going to compare the output of some bi-LEDs to the 5" 100W H1 Hella FF1000 driving lights I now have on the WRX before I decide whether to hack out 5" holes in the grille. I like the big look, but want the best light. Also putting a big light means some additional weight and a different mount style and will need some structure added behind the bumper cover/grille to keep them solid.

Edit- I tested my FF1000's against a cheap 3" generic BiLed as pictured in post 13, and a NHK IV+ Bi-Led retrofit projector and they both made the Hellas look sad. I guess I'm going LED.

I'm curious what the color temp of the OEM headlights is? Might not want a blue and yellowish front beam assortment.

I’ll obviously wait to get my car and investigate the actual space for mounting extra lights, but I did find these PIAA LED driving lights, about 5” diameter.

They usually show them with fugly black grilles attached, but turns out those snap off easily.
