Same 35mm offset though?

I bought the oem lug seat version. The front caliper clearance on 17x7.5 is very tight. Like only 1mm in places.

Had I done my due diligence and researched this better, I could have avoided doing the same. Argh. I also have a set of these with near no clearance between the caliper and the wheel. Trying to figure the best path forward now between different wheels, or a spacer. Unsure if a spacer up front will get the gap I need to safely run these in the winter without decimating my barrels and calipers from debris getting stuck in the 2-3mm gap.

Has anyone considered going for a gravel rally small brake kit for the front? Apparently Toyota made this for the GR Yaris RC, wonder if it would fit the GRC. This would allow you to fit certain 15s and probably any 16 or any 17" wheel you wanted.

I want to.... I just prefer higher heat capacity for track. Unless people also track with the RC setup... maybe someone from Japan, NZ or Australia has done a comparison of rz vs rc brakes. There are plenty of 17s that fit but the offsets are not idea and I don't want 17x9, I would prefer 17x8

With a lot of these winter setups, with a narrower 7.5" wheel, even at a 35ET, your outside edge is inboard by ~ 18mm or so vs the stock setup (18x8.5 30 ET). I didn't account for this, and the diameter of the wheel is quite a bit narrower in close proximity to the spokes.

I've ordered a set of four 20mm H&R hubcentric spacers which will position the wheel face 2mm further out than stock. With that much extra space behind the wheel face, I'm hoping there will be at least 1/4" clearance between the barrel and the caliper in the two tight areas. Will report back when spacers arrive.

Just wondering if anyone has tried Enkei TS-5 17x8 +40. I think they look amazing in bronze but as many are aware, some 17s don't fit over GRC's front brakes plus really want to avoid messing around with replacing studs for longer ones...

The face of those are going to sit around 16mm more sunk than stock. If you are dead set on those wheels, a 20mm bolt on spacer would help the fitment a bit. Not sure if the barrel fits over the caliper, though.

Did you end up buying a rally set of wheels and tires, if so would you mind sharing thanks
Well, now I have. I've decided to do some rallycross events next year. I bought the Eibach lift springs that lift the car an inch or so. That take me out of stock class and I doubt I'll be super competitive against prepared Subies, but really just want to have fun and not smash my car.

After reading the posts @86Zed wrote about his Braid wheels, I decided to look into those.

I contacted them via the BraidUSA.com website. I had posted on a few rallycross FB groups, and finally decided to go with narrower wheels for rallycross.

I have ordered 17x7 ET30 Fullrace A wheels, directly from the BraidUSA site. Since I wasn't in a big hurry, I chose to have them come in the spring in their next container, which meant free shipping. All the wheels are made to order, so you can spec whatever you want. They said they have supplied 17x8 and 17x7 with 30 offset, but I guess could probably do a smaller offset if you wanted.

The basic wheel price is $406, but I added several options.
Adding centercaps and machining so they snap in is $20.
Standard color is white, but you can specify other color for $112- I went crazy and ordered orange.
And there is a "beadlock" B option. This is different from the clamping type beadlock used by offroad climb trucks, etc., that use very low tire pressures. But they said this method is very effective for rally and rallycross driving. It's $154 per wheel. I think using narrower wheels will also help reduce debeading during the events.

For tires, I am still deciding between 225/50-17 Alpha rally tires.

Or maybe just some 215/55/17 snow tires. Whatever I decide, I'll probably order soon- it will be hard to get snow tires in April or May.

If you get too close to zero scrub radius, the car will become unstable, you need a little one way or the other.
I'd say that most of us running 17" narrow tires tucked, are doing it because we are doing significant serious winter operations. Therefore we are doing what makes the most sense for us, and don't care about scrub radius, only about ice and snow traction and braking.
The tuck does help to keep salt and sand off of the sides of the car.

The narrow wheels will be "tucked" because they are narrower- most of the wheels discussed here have offset very near oem.

As far as scrub radius, offset is what matters.

Ok, well I guess you haven’t driven a car where it was wrong then!

And if you tucked and offset aren’t related, then we can’t discuss this further, lol.

Lol indeed. Offset is not measured from the outside edge of the wheel, it’s measured from the center, so my 7” wide wheel will certainly be more “tucked” than the oem 8.5” wheel, even though the offset is very close.

You’re right, we shouldn’t discuss this further.
