I would caution that in a dynamic crash, a single owner-installed rivnut is not going to be much of a restraint for a heavy spare tire, even if it has to get past the seat to crush the soft passengers.
In fact, that’s why I chose the strap method.

Have you found a good solution for us Canadian boys yet?

I’ve been trying to find something as well as the 2 kits available from the U.S with shipping and duty can get pretty pricey. And the rav 4 prime rim from Toyota isn’t cheap either. I just tested my wife’s RX350 that had an 18x4 steel rim and the inside rubs on the caliper unfortunately. I was hoping it would work as it’s only $120cad for the rim. Next I’ll try to find one of those Infiniti G35/37 spares if I can find one locally.
I installed 15mm spacers on my GRC for my OEM wheels and I'll bet it would clear the calipers with the spacer. Some have used a 20mm spacer on the front.

what is the bolt you used to utilize the d ring? may i ask? I watched the videos on youtube, but they never mentioned where to get it.
I don’t remember- it either came from my collection of hardware from other projects over many decades, or from the metric section at the local hardware store.

I have been finally working on getting mine fitted. I just found a bolt that fit in my box of bolts that I always trow all spares into. It's a common size that Toyota uses as I had many of them.

I didn’t want to cut anything so I just put the spare from a Corolla Hatchback and use a spiderweb I got from Amazon to hold it down.
Did you test fit that on your car? I’d be very surprised if it fit on the front.

But if you have a front flat you could put the spare on the rear, then put the rear tire on the front.

What size is the tire?

T125/70R17…hope it fits
There’s no way it will fit on the front.

It will probably fit on the back, but you should test fit it so you aren’t finding out at the side of the road. (I assume you bought a jack and lug wrench also?)

That tire is not the same diameter as our tires, so it wouldn’t be good for the differentials to use that spare for a long distance.

Good point. I will try it and keep you guys posted, thanks!
Also, I’m not sure if the GR lugnuts will work with steel wheels.

But they might.

The lug nuts should be the same as Corolla Hatchback XSE. When I ordered wheel lock for the GR from Advanced Locks, it is the same as the HB XSE, which is also the same as Corolla Cross and Camry. I think Toyota likes to make lug nuts universal. I think you are right about not having enough space in the front with the extra large calipers though.

I didn't want to waste the space when on a road trip. I didn't care about cutting the foam since it was always going to be used with a spare so why did I care? And it looks so damn clean tucked under the floor. I even have extra tools for my road trip tucked into cubby holes.

Good point. Mine is a commuter/local car so I don’t put a lot of stuff in it. Plus I don’t trust my own cutting and crafting skills.
It really is not that difficult. The space beneath is ideal for a mini spare, and as others have said, plenty of room for tools, jack, etc. Plus it is all hidden away, and stable. No bouncing around when you hit a bump.
