depends on what offset your 17" wheels have
5mm-15mm spacers should fix the brake clearance issue.

And, don't be scared of using spacers, Toyota put spacers on your car already. As long as you use hubcentric good quality ones and have 8 turns of thread engagement of your lugnuts.

barrel design will determine whether spacers will get you there or not.

with spacers you need to be aware of the stud length, and potentially change those to have a safe number of threads for the lugs to attach.

some 17" have barrel clearance as if was 16" so yeah that happens, but 90% of wheels for racing purposes are true to size

Hey everyone, I wanted to drop in on this thread as we've had the chance to test some 17" wheels on this car.

5mm Front Spacer
(Factory) 10mm Rear Spacer

Naturally, when we got our hands on one of these we tried to test anything we had access to and could think of. The wheels we have here are actually intended for Honda S2000s, but we were curious as to how 17s would fit on the car. Admittedly, some of us here at Apex (it's me, I'm some of us) felt like the 17s look too small on the car. They did however clear factory brakes and the spacer up front is simply to prevent rubbing the inner tie rod at full lock.

The amount of tire these cars can fit stock is mind blowing. We've test fit 10-inch wheels with ET40 offsets and they fit just fine with zero modifications or spacers. Of course, not everyone is going to be going straight to the widest wheel they can find, but so far it's definitely looking like brake clearance is the concern compared to suspension or fender clearance.

Hope you all find this useful!

Do you know if there are plans for a 17" wheel group buy via GangUp anytime soon?
Great question! Yes, we are planning to have a Group Buy for our Forged 17" wheels. We'll make sure to let the community know once we get closer to the date.

I got this information from Braid directly inquiring about a 17" winter setup

While we haven't supplied for a GR Corolla Europe has supplied these for the GR Yaris which is supposed to have the same brake package:

FULLRACE A 7x17 ET +40
FULLRACE A 8x17 ET +35

If these fit then a lower offset certainly would to match the stock offsets and run the spacer. Probably best for vehicle dynamics.

Can run narrower tires, which is advantageous in snow and ice. The stock overall diameter is 25.4" so could use:
235/45-17 at 25.3"
225/45-17 at 25"
205/55-17 at 25.9"
205/50-17 at 25.1"

SCCA rallycross stock class rules allow a 1" change in diameter, a 1/2" change in width, and a 10mm change in offset.

So the 8" above might be a good choice. Assuming they fit. And 225/50-17 still seems like the right size for me at 25.9" dia.

Braid's dealer list seems pretty sketchy- mostly Porsche places that don't even mention selling wheels. This dealer looks like they might actually be interested in selling wheels.

Rules...sure. Doing this to have fun in ice, snow, and dirt backroads and track events. Half of their list includes well known Porsche aftermarket and race outfits, your comment on dealers is simply inaccurate.

Not really interested in buying wheels for my Toyota from a shop that does 99% of their business in Porsches.

(Nothing against Porsches, I've had nine.)

Still searching for a cheaper bomb-proof 17" option but Braid wheels are noticeably lighter than the O.Z. options. Apex wheels are beautiful but the shit streets and gravel here may tear them up
  • Braid FullraceA 17x8 - 20lb
  • O.Z. Rally Racing 17x8 - 25lb
  • O.Z. Superturismo 17x8 - 22lb
Correct me if weights are off, tough to find this information online

Good old RPF1'S are like 16-17lbs in the 17x9 size

Also, someone said the rpf1 won't clear the calipers.

Of course, that person just said 17", they didn't include width, or offset. They could have tried to fit some 17x7.5 48 offset for all I know.

there's sparse information in various places, so I figured maybe those of us interested in going with a smaller diameter wheel, maybe we consolidate what we know?

fitment of a 17" wheel is going to depend on the barrel of the wheel clearing the caliper, but also the spokes clearing the caliper, in addition to the normal clearance issues that might happen with suspension bits, or body parts.

so maybe, as we confirm 17" wheels that fit, or don't fit it can be posted here, along with the standard specs? wheel size, including offset, and then also tire info, if applicable.

there's this thread on the GRYaris forum that has:

braid fullrace A: 17x8 +27
TE37 17x8.5 +40

they also recommend stone scrapers on the calipers so as not to damage wheel barrels when a stone gets stuck between the caliper and barrel. that same thread says RPF1 and Rays CE28n both at 17x8 do not fit, but don't mention any offset
