Assuming the part out is real, the only piece of the car that would be left is the chassis

And even then if “Mazda Parts” decide to auction off whatever is left, people out there will still bid crazy amounts of money for what is essentially an altered E210 shell

I could already sense people trying to sell their salvaged E210 hatchbacks as GR Corollas on listing websites like ebay in the future
Parting out a car like this would be a gold mine if you have the time and space to do it. In fact, parting out lots of cars is a gold mine if you have the time and space to do it. One of my first cars was a 75 Vega GT. It was a wretched, rusty old thing, and after I broke the rear diff in it, abusing it, it was virtually worthless. I put an ad in the local "trading post" magazine that I was parting out of 75 Vega GT. My phone rang non-stop, and I made thousands, selling that car piece by piece.

Parting out is definitely more profitable than junking a car. Many people are looking for discontinued or unavailable parts for repairs or are experimenting with parts from other cars to use on their own project car or do some sort of conversion.

There is definitely someone out there insane enough to convert a standard E210 hatchback to be 1:1 with the GRC. You would need to strip down the entire thing to its bare shell. The only stock parts that could maybe stay behind are the front doors, some pieces of the dashboard, and centerconsole.

I'm guessing some rich person in a country with strict import laws will do it.

There's apparently been 4 (including the first one mentioned in this thread) already. This just popped up on my feed. 😥

So far no water damaged GRCs. The recent flooding in Broward County Florida had me worried but it looks like the ones in transit are stuck at Port Everglades. I do recall a Morizo Edition being sold at Toyota of Hollywood last month. Time will tell if it got submerged in the canal streets or remained dry somewhere.

I wanna know what auction service those are listed on. Definitely not Copart based on searching today. I have a pipe dream of putting a G16 in an IS300...
I believe they’re on iaai.com

Some don't look that bad. But I can see insurance companies totalling them out rather then a lifetime of trying to get the car perfect again. Which it'll never be. Or could it be a parts problem?

Both red ones look pretty fixable. 2nd one easily.

If it’s anything how the supra was insurance was totaling them out for very minimal damage because getting parts was such a pain in the ass

I can't buy into that. An insurance adjuster's job is to make the insured whole again for the least dollar amount possible. They have guidelines to go by, and every insurance company has a threshold where they will total the vehicle. Typically that threshold is somewhere around 75 to 80% of the value of the car. If they believe there may be more concealed or unknown damage, they may total it at a slightly lower threshold. Rental cars are nothing but play money for them, and they don't care that much how long the insured has to be in a rental waiting on parts. If the damage estimate isn't at or above that threshold, more often than not, they're going to fix that car, and just keep the insured in a rental while waiting for parts. It's all about the dollars, and the adjuster's job is to save the company as many dollars as they can.

I can speak from experience that Toyota had my MKV for 2.5 months in their shop while waiting to get ONE vanos central bolt for the exhaust camshaft. That was a singular bolt with a reciprocating center. I’m sure getting body panels etc would have been more frustrating.

There are a lot of specific body parts required. I'm guessing they aren't readily available yet

I dunno, you can buy a Circuit hood with all the trimmin's. 🤷
Yeah, but fenders? Bumpers? Quarter panels? Rear doors or the wide body piece (not sure if it's a standard rear corolla door)?
