Motegi MR158 18x9.5 +25 + 265/35R18 DWS06+ (No Rub, OEM Height)

Allow me to introduce the latest setup on The GRolla:

Motegi Tsubaki MR158 18x9.5 +25 wrapped in Continental DWS06 Plus 265/35R18.
The fitment is nearly flush at stock height and rides better than I expected — it's honestly dialed.

Wheel & Tire Setup:
  • Motegi MR158 Tsubaki – 18x9.5 +25, powder coated Midnight Purple
  • Continental DWS06 Plus – 265/35R18
  • OEM TPMS sensors retained
  • Stock height & factory alignment
→ No rubbing or scrubbing, even under spirited driving
Fitment Notes:

This setup clears effortlessly at stock ride height. With OEM alignment, it sits just shy of flush — lowering the car would likely introduce rubbing, especially under high-speed compression or without additional front camber.

Fitment Journey:

This setup has been six months in the making. I originally ordered the wheels in September 2024, but FedEx damaged two in transit. One was caught immediately, but the other wasn’t discovered until after powder coating and tire mounting. That meant ordering a replacement, re-coating, and rebalancing.

It was a frustrating process — but in the end, I got the finish and fitment I was after.

Driving Impressions:

I daily this car and have been tuning it for spirited drivability — specifically for the Pacific Northwest. The stock 235s (and even the 245/40R18s I briefly ran) just felt off. This new 18x9.5 +25 with 265/35R18 setup completely transforms the chassis.

Turn-in is sharper, the car feels more planted, and modes like 30/70 and 50/50 behave very differently now. The added track width really helped reduce front-end push, and it’s honestly brought the car to life in ways I didn’t expect.

If you’ve ever owned and modified a GR86, you’ll know what I mean — this finally gets the GRC closer to that level of responsiveness.

Coming Soon:

I also installed iSWEEP IS2000 pads (front and rear). Once I get a few more miles on them, I’ll post a detailed review.
If you're looking for OEM-like pedal feel with low-dust, non-corrosive performance, keep an eye out.

After checking the BBS fit, I went with the Apex VS-5RS 18 x 9.5. Also got their 60 deg conical nuts in Silver. After a fit check, I went with the Michelin PS4s 265/35. I kept the rear spacers in for now. Going to make sure there's no rear impacts on heavy bumps.

And the car learned the new TPWS sensors in like 5 minutes.

Just got my summer set mounted and installed this past weekend.

Fast FC08 18x9.5 +38 ET
Stock lug bolts
Stock rear spacers
235-40-18 stock Michelin PS4 tires
Extended thread lug nuts (11-11.5 turns) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08DQVVZ6L

The stock tires are a bit stretched, so after they wear out I’m probably going to replace them with Conti ECS 02 tires, although haven’t decided what size yet (thinking maybe 245-40 or 265-35).

Looking good. Got some RS05, do you feel comfortable with the stock studs up front?

BBS RG-R 18x9.5 ET20 (OEM spacer, OEM suspension) on 255/40R18.

Used 71.6 to 60.1 hub rings that came with them from BBS.

Used the lug nuts that came with the wheels from BBS, got 7.5 turns on front and back with 88 ft-lbs of torque. I know 8 is optimal, but I’m ok with 7.5, it’s close enough on stock studs.

No rubbing this far, only driven ~50 miles

Oh ok, thanks!
I have the same spec 57dr's and I have oem rear studs all around. I use a 5mm spacer for the rear and get get enough thread engagement. I also use 10mm oem spacers up front and 12mm rear spacers for my OEM wheels with oem and aftermarket oem style lug nuts for my winter set up and have no problems.

Looks like I wasn't awake when I made my post in the snow tire/wheel thread...

Just got a set of Enkei NT03 RR on Toyo Extensa HPII 235/40r18 installed on the factory studs/lugs. Temporary tuner lug nuts while the supplier sends some longer, open ended "performance" ones in preparation for potential longer stud setup.

I guess since I'm not doing track days I can wait a little bit before doing that mod ? 265 tires are definitely something to think about because the stretches right now is a bit... well let's say I have to be extra careful about curbs now... 😬
