Sorry bro, that's not correct. You get a "maintenance" every 5,000 mi. You get an oil change every 10,000 mi. If you do your services early enough, you can actually get the fifth tire rotation. You get a tire rotation and multi-point inspection every 5000 mi, and an oil and filter change every other service. That's Toyota Care.
My salesman straight up lied to me then. Color me surprised, lol.

Oops, I stand corrected. The maintenance manual actually does recommend an oil change every 5000 mi on this car, and not just for severe duty conditions. My mistake. Now I know.
Yeah I just did some searching. I have a feeling they're going to argue about it when the time comes for a change though. Here's the standard brochure since most cars only require 10,000 mile oil changes.

I apologize for speaking without checking first. I've had this argument with customers so many times over the last decade plus, I wish I had a dollar for each time. Up until this car, the only Toyota products that had 5,000 mi synthetic oil changes were flex fuel tundra and Sequoia. Everything else got a 10,000 mi oil change. I suppose I should have expected it, with this being a turbo engine. That certainly warrants more frequent oil changes. You should not have to argue with a dealer to get these maintenance items, since it is clearly stated in the maintenance manual. It should definitely be part of your Toyota care, plus the tire rotation and multi-point inspection.

I don’t think the maintenance on the GR Corolla is different than the base Corolla. Is it posted?

but yeah, you’ll get 4 oil changes out of it. If you decide to change early, it counts towards your 4.

Interesting. I pulled out a bottle of the old stuff, and here are the numbers on it. But it looks like because of the SM designation, it probably won't be sufficient for the GRC.

I imagine if the new stuff is the same price, the parts department will just start switching it all over to the new stuff.

I saw this bottle but I don’t think it’s right, our manual specifies an SP 0w-20 that is ILSAC GF-6A.

Thus far valvoline is the only oil I found that matches the requirements. Everyone else says they conform to ilsac-6 not 6a. I’m probably going to give amsoil or motul a call; no one has any info on our cars!

here’s the spec sheet from valvoline.

looks like Motul 8100 eco lite 0w-20 the spec sheet that matches the manual.

Well alrighty then, lol. I might just pay the dealer to do my first one. My salesman doesn't think my 2-years of free oil changes will cover a change at 1000 miles. I'll call the service department and see.
I am doing the same today. Calling the stealership talking to service manager (who also has a CE on order) and now we are bffs due to me getting the first one. SO going to try and get them to do an initial break in oil change. If I have to pay I will but, regardless getting it done, and not waiting till april for the first 5k service interval.

According to the manual- this car requires an oil change at every service interval btw. And I will be demanding it. And making sure. This aint some RAV4 that gets one oil change a year. SO act accordingly.

The lack of information the dealer has is why I won’t be taking my car in, 3 different service departments couldn’t give me oil info or filter PN’s on our cars. Moderate concern for a motor that is brand new and needs the correct lubricants.

this is our factory fill oil, and it’s a special order here in America.

What information are they needing? Literally need three things-Oilweight/type-Oil filter- Fill amount?

What are they not getting lol?

I'm worried about taking the car to the dealer and them trying to treat it like a normal Corolla. I don't want the wrong oil and filter.

Easy there big fella. I worked at a dealer for 40 years, and believe it or not they have other things to do besides make sure they're current on the information on a car that may not have ever even seen the light of day in their dealership yet. Give them a little time to get up to speed.

That's good information, thank you!

standard oils conform to standard ratings, our cars require high performance oil, the lack of overall specs on these cars, and the lack of detail in most service departments is the reason my suspension still had the shipping isolators on it. Standard Toyota 0w-20 is an SN rated gf-5, if techs don’t have part numbers for proper oil, what makes you think they know what to put in it?

and I don’t mean this in a bad way! Service departments are very knowledgeable and helpful, there just isn’t enough out there about our cars in America yet!

my understanding is gf-6 is split into two categories 6a and 6b. 6a covers SAE 0W-20, SAE 5W-20, SAE 0W-30, SAE 5W-30, and SAE 10W-30 while 6b only covers SAE 0w16 and that manufacturer dont label a gf-6a as such but leave it as a gf-6.

the oil I will be using is labeled as gf-6 but since it's a 0w20 it should be labeled as gf-6a. so I dunno. I'll keep the bottles if Toyota wants to be fussy about a warranty claim.

My VIN doesn't even pull up on the Toyota parts center website, lol. You can't manually search parts for a GR Corolla either because it's not on there yet.

Techs don't have part numbers for anything unless it's in a service bulletin. That's what the parts department is for.

That's exactly correct. Here's what I plan to do when my GR comes in. I'm going to go to the parts manager and say hey man I just bought a new GR Corolla. It gets an oil and filter change every 5000 mi or 6 months. I hear the oil and filter are a little hard to get because they are both different from everything else. Do you suppose you could maybe order that stuff in now, so you'll have it when I come in for my first oil change? Be nice, and they'll be happy to work with you. I can tell you that none of us ever really wanted to go out of our way for a customer who came in with both barrels blazing.

Agreed! Trust me, I had no intention of going in that hot.
