First Oil Change..

I am planning on doing our first oil change soon..

Got an oil plug with a magnet (use them on all my cars, work great), will update this thread if it fits once I do the swap.

I usually use Amsoil and would love to sick with one brand (buying in bulk, etc..). I believe 0w-20 is recommended for this engine (G16E-GTS) same as my ND2.

I believe EA15K09 is the Amsoil filter that should be comparable to Toyota's 90915-YZZN1 OEM filter, can someone please confirm that?

Thank you

I tried to find filters last week to do my break-in oil change and couldn't find them anywhere. Haven't called the dealer yet though. If anyone finds filters outside of the dealership let me know. Is 90915-YZZN1 the part number?

Per manual

“Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is used in your Toyota vehicle. Use Toyota approved “Toyota Genu- ine Motor Oil” or equivalent to satisfy the following grade and viscosity.
Oil grade: ILSAC GF-6A multi- grade engine oil
Recommended viscosity: SAE 0W-20”

after doing a bit of googling looks like it’s fairly standard with the big oil guys, articles from mobil1, pennzoil, and Castrol.

Yeah I just did some searching. I have a feeling they're going to argue about it when the time comes for a change though. Here's the standard brochure since most cars only require 10,000 mile oil changes.

I apologize for speaking without checking first. I've had this argument with customers so many times over the last decade plus, I wish I had a dollar for each time. Up until this car, the only Toyota products that had 5,000 mi synthetic oil changes were flex fuel tundra and Sequoia. Everything else got a 10,000 mi oil change. I suppose I should have expected it, with this being a turbo engine. That certainly warrants more frequent oil changes. You should not have to argue with a dealer to get these maintenance items, since it is clearly stated in the maintenance manual. It should definitely be part of your Toyota care, plus the tire rotation and multi-point inspection.

Interesting. I pulled out a bottle of the old stuff, and here are the numbers on it. But it looks like because of the SM designation, it probably won't be sufficient for the GRC.

I imagine if the new stuff is the same price, the parts department will just start switching it all over to the new stuff.

I saw this bottle but I don’t think it’s right, our manual specifies an SP 0w-20 that is ILSAC GF-6A.

Thus far valvoline is the only oil I found that matches the requirements. Everyone else says they conform to ilsac-6 not 6a. I’m probably going to give amsoil or motul a call; no one has any info on our cars!

here’s the spec sheet from valvoline.

looks like Motul 8100 eco lite 0w-20 the spec sheet that matches the manual.

The lack of information the dealer has is why I won’t be taking my car in, 3 different service departments couldn’t give me oil info or filter PN’s on our cars. Moderate concern for a motor that is brand new and needs the correct lubricants.

this is our factory fill oil, and it’s a special order here in America.

ok soooooo whats the consensus lol? If it comes down to it, ill buy the oil myself and just get the filter from the dealer. I would like that GR branded oil above honestly. Now everyone's got me feeling like the dealer wont know what they're doing........Which when they initially wrote up my sales paperwork they wrote it up as a corolla SE, and finance guy called me almost a week later and straight up said: "Hey I fucked up" and now you have to redo everything. I do know my dealer gets in Supras and GR86s. I am assuming both of those cars need specific oils and filters etc.

#53 ·
Consensus seems to be that 0w20 Full Synthetic ILSAC GF-6 rated oil should be fine. I would hope that the dealer has this? I still need the part number for our oil filter though. If I can find one I'm doing my 1000-mile oil change myself then I'll go into the dealer at 5000 miles for another.

Can someone direct me to the recommended oil change intervals in the owner's manual? I can't find it in there anywhere. I know It's 5000 miles, but I want proof to show the service department if they try to say recommended interval is 10,000 miles.

What I can gather is if this oil is manufactured by a company that sells it to Walmart and Amazon, that meets the required standards. Then we may just be looking at marketing, and ultimately, for the sake of engineered ouls, removing the brand recognition or bias... you could essentially go to Walmart, save your money and have the same level of protection (if not more).

I've done something similar with previous cars, where I tracked down the exact oil being engineered for another company that Pennzoil was using, but they were charging about half the cost of Pennzoil.

I just got off the phone with the service manager at my Toyota Dealer, they were NOT under the impression that the car would be given an oil change at every service interval. They just said all I would be getting at 5k miles would be a tire rotation and checking the fluids etc.

The whole reason why I called was to be able to get a break in oil change done on the trans and the oil. He sounded like he didnt have a clue.

So I indicated that according to the Maintenance Service Schedule that came with the car every 5k it would get an oil change and few other things as the mileage piles up etc. So I told him I would email him a PDF of those manuals and forms etc. He also stated that the Supra and GR86's do not get the same treatment as well and have different schedules etc. He said he would reach out to parts about obtaining proper fluids and filters and would let me know tomorrow. But man does this sound like a shit show with the expectations and maintenance etc. I almost want to create a dedicated thread for the 2 years of included maintenance not being what it actually is supposed to be. So any thoughts would be warranted. Let me know.

Just as I feared.... I'll give my dealer a call too when I get some time.

Adding this info, I dunno if anyone wants to sticky, after calling around several service departments Toyota in Thousand Oaks was very helpful in giving out part numbers

Gr Corolla Oil Filter P/N 90915-yzzn1

Our cars take 4.5 Qt's (oil and filter) of full synthetic 0w-20 API SP ilsac gf-6a found just about anywhere from almost all major brands, from amazon to Pennzoil.

For the guys that have changed theirs already, do we need a crush washer on the drain plug?
OEM isn't a crush washer for the engine oil drain plug, it's a fibrous material. transmission, transfer case and diff use crush washer.

edit p/n for crush washer 12157-10010 x 6 edit only 4 needed for transfer and diff
edit p/n for transmission drain/fill gasket 90430-18008 x2

p/n for engine oil drain washer 90430-12031 x 1

@Jeonsa can we move this particular post or info to the general maintenance thread.

All the technical bits and part numbers for services:

Oil filter (factory fit - only available in Japan) : 90915-10009
Oil filter (North America equivalent) : 90915-YZZM1 = 90915-YZZF2 = 90915-YZZN1 - all three supercede to the newest N1, some dealers may still have old stock as this is not a fast mover.
Oil filter (unconfirmed alternative bigger filter): 90915-YZZF1 - this is a common upgrade for 4A-GE's. Stock 4A-GE filter is the YZZF2 filter, but YZZF1 fits, longer by about 1cm = more filtering. Only limitation is fitment of the longer filter.

Drain plug gasket for engine: 90430-12031
Rear diff drain and fill gaskets: 12157-10010 x2
Transfer drain and fill gaskets: 12157-10010 x2
Transmission drain and fill gaskets: 90430-18008 or 90430-A0003

Transmission oil: 08885-81007 x2 Toyota LV (w/LSD is 2L, but w/o LSD takes 2.1L, so might need more than 2)
Rear diff oil: 08885-02606 Toyota LX (half ish liter)
Transfer oil: 08885-02506 Toyota LT (half ish liter)

Oil (factory fill): 08880-13205 (4L can, you need more than one, spec is 4.3L with filter change)
Oil (Canada): C0BBA-0W2SN-1J (4.4L, API SP, which matches the ILSAC GF-6A req: Oil Categories)
Oil (USA): 00279-0WQTE-6S (per quart) - this part number was also used for API SN Plus, but it should now be all API SP. Back of the bottle says if it is.
