I am digging the SSCO shift knobs, check them out. They do some custom orders and might be able to do one with alcantara. Also you can choose weight levels which is cool and their pricing is well below Lathe Werks.
Woke up from a nap. Searched Alcantara shift knob on the forum. Saw this post. Just bought the bk hybrid (derlin, steel) from ssco. Wish me luck

Hi everyone. I have the core shift knob and I was wondering if it is worth it to upgrade to the leather or Alcantara Morizo one. Is it worth the price? Does it have more weight? Does the old one just screw off and new one screw on?

Thank you
honestly ya I think its worth it. I was holding out for one for the Alcantara one for a while just because I love the idea of oem/oem+ look even though I have the leather one already. The morizo ones are about 8oz but they were hard to find when I was shopping for them. I recently got a knob from Shift Solutions though and it checks 100% of the boxes for half the price so I got over wanting the Alcantara one.

Anyone know if you can remove the gray plastic piece on the 2023 CE shift knob? My 2024 CE shoft knob is on its way, and Im pretty sure the blue plastic piece on the 24 CE knob has the same dimensions as the gray plastic piece on the 23 CE knob.
Just would like to swap the blue out for the gray.

Stock sits too high for me. To each his own View attachment 22933
I agree shorter is better but the other one does look better IMO :)
Also not cold in the winter...
I ordered the SSCO one and it sits 1/4 inch lower than the stock core knob.
I am wondering if the one you got is the same or even lower.
As you can see from the pictures above i am at about 5.25 inches from the trim to the top of the knob.

Thank you

Yeah no problem with what looks better as looks are subjective. I have multiple knobs that I swap out for variety. Cold knob? Put on a some driving gloves until it warms up…I live in snow country.

No idea how mine sizes up to what you ordered. Mine is from lathewerkes.com which is at a different level than most.

Just for shits and giggles, i decided to compare the weights of the 2023 CE knob and the 2024 CE knob. The 2024 seemed heavier, but when i put both on the scales, they were oretty much identical in weight, with the 2023 CE knob actually being a cunt hair heavier by .04 Oz.

Ended up doing a whole Likewise setup to change the look of the OEM lockout.

  • RLX GR Corolla Lockout kit
  • Thicc Boi knob in black

The weight of the knob is great for smoothing out the shifting throw and I have not noticed any difference in vibration/noises with the metal lockout. Loving it so far.

just a reminder for folks swapping knobs and maybe even shift boots, Ive got a listing up for that spring retainer clip thats easy to break or lose, no profit in this for me, just saw toyota doesnt sell this seperately.

Some parts came from Japan the other day and I didn't see a writeup about the Tom's carbon shift knob, sorry if this has been discussed somewhere.

Anyhow, I was absolutely not a fan of the ridge at the top of the OE shift knob where the gate pattern disk was inset below the leather trim. My last car had a stock metal shift knob ('14 CR-Z) and even with the leather wrap strip around the outside it was totally uncomfortable to touch all winter and most of the summer. I also hate driving in gloves. I replaced that knob with a CF Mugen ball and loved it, so I started looking for something similar.

Best price I could find was from Black Hawk Japan, shipping pretty reasonable if you order other stuff too:

Dimension Difference from Stock -
Tom's: 45.4mm tall, 51.5mm diameter
OE Circuit: 59.5mm tall, 53.4mm "diameter"

Weight difference is totally unnoticeable to me while driving.

How much bigger is the billetworkz than the stock knob? Would you say it’s holding up well?
It's still perfect after 4000 miles. Not a scratch. It's wider because it's round, but it feels great in the hand rather than the weird shape of the CE knob. Highly recommend it.

Here are the shift knobs I've tried out.

Stock: 60.5 grams
Shift Solutions Co CS in aluminum (Candy Black): 174 g ~$50
Lathewerks Stainless Steel Piston (Gunmetal): 461.4 g $185

My Pre-GR car had a Lathewerks sphere which has a 2in (50.8mm) diameter. The SSCO sphere has a diameter of 55mm. I thought they would be close enough but the SSCO just didn't feel right. You could also feel the gap between the reverse lockout collar thing and the bottom of the ball.

I have the RacerX short shifter linkage and bushings. The added mass of the piston as well as the added height makes the shift feel alot smoother (less notchy) and easier to get into gear.
The Lathewerks looks and feels great. The stitching could be better but meh. As great as it is, a word of caution: He is a very busy dude and is supplying some other companies now. I ordered at the beginning of April, I just received my shift knob last week, in August.
