Adding an additional gauge to the car

I think enthusiasts would find this gauge pod helpful, especially paired with an easymode OBD2 gauge. Really nice to keep an eye on IATs and heat soak etc, especially on track. Installation is simple and reversible. Designed to not lose any function of the vent. Was especially handy for seeing the real time difference when I swapped to my SXTH Element intake. Theres no denying the intake air temp improvements. Curios if Ill see more improvement when my intercooler comes in. It's an AEM obd2 gauge. The wiring is coming out of the back of the gauge and into the dash through the pod, then just plugs right into the obd2 port.

The only wiring that's visible is the connection to the obd2 port down in the footwell

Its made out of ASA and Ive been running it since August of last year with zero signs of degradation.

Just ordered one of these last week. I've been looking for a nice dual temperature gauge to monitor transfer case and ITCC temperature. Might also end up with a nice old school analog boost gauge up there like in the old days. I find that position easy to monitor in my periphery, more so than the dash.

@CrazyAirborne - how fast is the response on the OBD gauge? Any evidence of smoothing? Will it display EGT? Oh and SiriusXM Octane sucks, Turbo is where it's at (did I just date myself...)

I havent really used the gauge for anything other than air temps, so I havent enough time to definitively give an answer on its response time. I think its pretty spot on tho from messing around with it. It displays a bunch of things, the list is too long for me to memorize. My kit is just the pod, the gauge is purchased separately, just to be clear on that :) I think its a fantastic location for a gauge, like you said, just right there in the peripheral when you are focused on the road. If you bought from me, please dont hesitate to update this thread with your thoughts, or send me a message if you have any issues whatsoever.

Also Turbo is my #2 channel so Im cool with that :p

Awesome! Thanks for your support! So the kit will ship with all the instructions with pictures. Essentially you just fish it up through the dash, the path is not too bad. You have really easy access from the left side panel that simply pops right out. Ill share the instructions here : SRDesigns Corolla 52mm Vent Gauge Installation Instructions

@CrazyAirborne was curious how the OBD connection is working for you with the AEM gauge. With the one I received, there is a sort of sweet spot in the middle that I need to reach for it to achieve a connection. If I press it down too far, it loses the connection. It seems like if I hit a bump while driving it will come loose. How does yours fit?

so I thought I was having the same type of issue, as I would have to re-plug mine in to get it to turn on. I think its actually the gauge getting power, or detecting the voltage or something and staying in a battery saver mode or something? Ive noticed if I drive the car often, like every day, the gauge will turn on most of the time right when i turn the car on, other times itll come on within the first minute of driving. if I dont drive the car for a few days, it seems like the gauge takes longer to turn on, as if its waiting for the battery to get topped up? Idk, It was frusterating me over the winter when i wasnt driving it every day, but lately the gauge has been working just like Id expect. not sure that helps but I feel your pain. I actually thought it was my wire/gauge specifically from all the remove and reinstalls when I was designing the pod, i though I must have worn something out. but I guess its not just me!

also just to be clear, this isnt a problem with the gauge pod, just the obd connector for the AEM gauge can be a little funky it seems.

No issues to report from anyone whos purchased my gauge pods! My own personal one is still the same as it was on day one. Its made out of an ABS like plastic (ASA) so unless someone punches it or you get in a car accident, theres nothing that can really fail or go wrong with them :) Im about to run some errands with my car, Ill check if it shows boost, I feel like it might but never personally used it since theres a boost gauge in the cluster already. I do not have a dual gauge version, havent had many requests for that.

It does not look like the OBD2 AEM X Series Gauge can display boost. Its got a lot of readouts, but I did not find anything that looked like boost. My pod should be good to go for any gauge as long as it doesnt need a cup depth of more than 1 3/4 inches.

Mine finally came in! I installed it before work.

Is it normal for the top right corner of the vent to not sit as flush as the rest of it? Mine is raised slightly but not above the dash. I'm wondering if it's pressing on the cable. It doesn't look terrible, I'm just curious.

the cable might be holding it up a little bit, I have seen that before yes. my own personal one has settled in and sits evenly now that the cable is broke in a little more and doesnt apply upward pressure.
