What do you want to know about the GR Corolla?

Alright guys, I want to compile a list of the most pressing questions you guys have about the GR Corolla. The more technical, the better.

There's a good chance I will have an opportunity to see the car soon as we are nearing production, and hopefully there will be some engineering support there to answer any and all questions we may have.

Of course, we all want to know the basics; drivetrain, specs, looks, etc

But I'm more curious about the nitty gritty, what has changed on the G16E-GTS compared to the GR Yaris? What sort of differentials are available? What sort of AWD Logic is being used in the various modes. Is it the standard TNGA GA-C platform from the E210 Corolla, or is it using a modified platform like the GR Yaris?

My list goes on, but I wanna know what you guys are mostly curious about! I'll only have limited time and potentially even more limited time with engineers, so it'll be best to ask the most important things!

To be honest Guff I think you nailed what everyone is after. I own a 21 HB and if the interior in it is a bit sportier with a manual and AWD with the G16. I don't live near any tracks at all so the differentials don't mean a hell of a lot for me...Are you the same Guff I am thinking of?

Yep the very same Guff!

I think for the vast majority of us, it comes down to, "what sort of balance is being struck between 'boring Corolla' and 'rally machine"?"

I'm fairly convinced (considering Toyota NA's track record) that it will be less hardcore than the GRY. But I know for a lot of us, we desperately need this car to feel truly special to be worth it for us.

I want to know if they'll have an option for adaptive dampers... One of the biggest reasons I've considered an S550 Mustang is the suspension setup. That Magenride tech is amazing. I can be comfy while highway cruising and daily commuting, then tighten it down for autocross/spirited backroad driving.
Really, any questions relating to the daily drivability of the car are relevant to me, as it'll be my only car.

What will peak torque RPM range look like? One of my biggest complaints with my Focus ST during autocross is trying to keep the car above 3.5k RPM for max turn coming out of a turn. I understand it's a turbo'd car and the torque comes in at mid-high range, but I'm curious what they've managed to pull off for low-mid end torque.

The ones you mentioned are all things I've wondered, too. Sure, they could just slap a slightly higher tuned version of the G16E in a corolla, but they could just as easily make some small mods to it. Knowing Toyota, they just might, to keep that reliability level up. One guy has a 500whp Yaris and all he's had to do to it besides aux fuelling and bolt ons is better valve lifters. That speaks pretty damn highly of the internal of the engine.

Interesting, that would be nice. But for me whatever the suspension is, sporty or much better than those standard XSE hatchbacks would be okay, because I'll be upgrading to coilovers to maximized the potential of the car

G16, 6 speed manual, Bigger brakes like the one from GR Yaris and an AWD are on the top of my list.

I love my 1998 RHD Subaru Impreza STi Type R, and I'll be keeping it and up to now I'm still restoring it. The GR Corolla would be my daily.

Thank you so much!

It's a long story haha but I had a show called "A Little Bit of Nothing" that I wrote a pilot for and it was terrible lmao, so it didn't go anywhere. That got shortened to ALBON, and I ran with the name for YouTube, and now we're here!

If it has a Carbon roof, it will have to be built at Motomachi alongside the GR Yaris and Lexus LC500. They are the only ones currently equipped with the forged carbon production equipment.

The current Corolla is built globally, with US models assembled in Mississippi at TMMMS. The Japanese models are built at Takaoka and Tsutsumi, so it will be a manufacturing shift for them to spin up Corolla at Motomachi. Not totally unreasonable though!

We'll see, until they've not release any info about it. We are all in the guessing game

1. Will there be a “circuit pack” equivalent on the GRC or will that be standard?

2. What color options available at launch? - Will there be a pearl white?

3. Quite a few owners of the GR Yaris have complained about overheating issues with the AWD system; specifically the clutch packs in the center diff overheating. Will this be addressed on the GR Corolla?

4. Will the curb weight fall under 3,150 lbs?

Gearing is another common issue on the GR Yaris. Folks have inadvertently slotted into 1st instead of 3rd on very casual downshifts. Something similar happened to that Misha dude’s friend on the Nurburgring, which I believe caused engine damage due to overrev. There’s an entire video dedicated to this on his YouTube channel.

I believe Toyota is aware of this as it’s a known issue with the gear linkage. Not everyone is impacted, but if you Google it, there are many posts discussing it.

Can you be a bit more specific to how soon is soon for you to preview the car?
