Places where wheel spacers are illegal...how does that affect the GRC?

Wheel spacers are illegal in Ontario, Canada. I understand they are also illegal in Massachusetts, USA and maybe elsewhere. Any idea where that leaves the GRC which, as I understand it, has 10mm spacers in the rear from the factory? The Ontario law definitely makes no distinction between OEM vs aftermarket spacers - all are illegal. Not sure then if they have to be removed before being sold in these locations? Or is this something that just slipped under the radar waiting for some poor bastard to have an insurance settlement declined for being in an illegally equipped vehicle?

I'd be surprised if that is ever scrutinized or enforced... Maybe something they'd look at if one was broken and possibly the cause of an accident, you'd probably be liable for an additional fine or something.
Well my logic is that if insurance can find a reason to deny payout, they will definitely use it. Driving a vehicle that is in an illegal configuration would definitely quality.

Well in Ontario it doesn't work like that since its a no fault system over here, so you deal with your insurance for claims and they compensate you. Also you don't have to imagine since people get rear ended all the time spacers or not.

Futhermore @McGuillicuddy do you actually own a GRC in Ontario and if so worried about having insurance claims rejected due to wheel spacers or just trying to spread FUD? This is an an honest question cause it can be quite easily solved..

Call your insurance and ask them then graciously report back to us (and fb and rfd and wherever else you asked)
I am an interested shopper, currently cross-shopping the Golf R and GRC. It's not a dealbreaker but it's something that I noticed. I have called my insurance for a quote on the GRC ($1000 more per year than my 2018 Alltrack!) but I did not bring up the spacers. I would not trust the phone agents to know anything that detailed/specific.
