Hi,

Who has installed a Pioneer 9" DMH-WC6600NEX head unit and how well does it work for you ?

This head unit with custom harness was installed as part of a full custom system for my GR, including Mosconi Amps, Audio Frog 3-way fronts and 3 10s in a very custom enclosure.

From the start the head unit would stop music then freeze touch screen and re-boot. This is very random and happens every drive, would happen when using wired CarPlay, Bluetooth, USB, XM and radio, even with my phone turned off (testing for possible phone compatibility issue), firmware was updated.

A new head unit was provided and did the same thing, right out of the box ???? 2 bad head units ???? this is very frustrating for all involved.

This has been very frustrating to say the least. Good news for me is that the head unit supplier is a great guy and has been very helpful and my local shop owner is an awesome person who's customer service is above and beyond.

looks like the factory head unit is going back in.

if anyone is using the Pioneer Head Unit I would like to know your experience with it

Thanks!!

I've had many Pioneer head units in the past and they have all done this. I have a AVH-4200NEX in my Fiat and it reboots itself all the time. Most high end car audio manufactures have left the market so there might not be a lot of choices left. I would say, leave it stock as too many bugs can come up with aftermarket units. Hope you find the cause of the issue as your system sounds like it's pretty sweet.

You're Bings customer! I'm the headunit supplier lol. I provided the complete kit for your install. He did reach out not long after your install was completed and mentioned it doing weird stuff. I sent over a complete headunit replacement and he also said it was doing the same thing. Last time I spoke with him, I mentioned to try and do a firmware update. That could be the only explanation to what both units were doing the exact same thing. I have about a dozen of these units installed in other GR's and haven't come across the same issues you're having. Have you guys tried any firmware updates? Bing is a super solid guy, I'm stoked you got to have him do your system, and I'm stoked to have been a small part of it!

Hi
Yes, I am over the moon that Bing took on this project. He is a Great stand up Guy and his craftsmanship is top notch. The build is on his Facebook and it is work of art (inverted woofers)!! and thank you for your help with the replacement head unit and harness.
The firmware was updated from 3.04 to 3.07 and the results are the same. At first I thought it may have been a iPhone / CarPlay compatibility issue so I drove the car with the phone turned off (even before I started the car) and every drive it will stop/freeze and reboot (many times) with any music source at any volume. The new head unit takes longer to reboot than the original
And something new it has started to do -- on first start the volume may not not adjust up or down from the touch screen or the steering wheel and I need to turn the car off and on again for the volume to adjust.
Going to try the new TY14 and see what happens.
Thank You for your support
Vinnie
