Rumors about the next-generation Toyota MR2 suggest it may debut in 2026 with a 400-horsepower all-wheel-drive setup. Speculation indicates that the vehicle will feature a mid-mounted, next-generation 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, alongside a competitive pricing of around $70,000

That render in the Carscoops is dope if it got anywhere near looking that nice I would buy it in a heartbeat at 70k would make it a huge challeger to the Emira and the Caymen.

$70k?? Lol, defeats the whole purpose of what the MR2 was, which was an AFFORDABLE mid engine sports car. Probably wont even be available in NA, the Celica probably will though.

I can see that but giving it 400hp mid engine and awd is gonna cost . If it was strictly RWD ya . It could slot in around 30-40k but to have the styling awd and 400 hp?

That’s gonna be hard to slot at anywhere below say 55k minimum. Cars are just more now. People whined about the price of Our cars though when you look at what we got it’s not that unreasonably priced. Oh and People paid 50k plus for Morizo’s and some did as well for Circuits initially. How was that any different?

I guess you could say you would buy a Corvette instead hell I could say that about my plans to buy an Emira. Though the Vette no matter how nice it is and they are nice it’s not going to drive like the Lotus. Nor do they look as nice in styling thanks to GM botching the rear of the car design wise in my opinion.

The MR2 on the other hand could definitely challenge the Emira for 30k less .Same goes for the Emira’s true rival the 718 Caymen GT4s . So ya all of sudden looking at those cars the MR2 comes in at the relative bargain price for a car that could rival the Caymen GT4s in performance .

There were rumors that that’s what Tetsuya Tada wanted to do originally was take the MR2 and challenge the cayman.

Kinda made sense though because Toyota never had a true answer to those cars in a way…. Maybe offer more engine variants to cover price ranges so that it still falls in the MR2 being “affordable”

idk where the Celica would fit though, I still have that feeling it’ll be the flagship.

That render is actually a Toyota concept car.
