Why did Toyota get things so backwards with the refresh when it wasn't an issue before? What's the advantage to using speaker sounds
so you can hear the car on track without an exhaust, primarily when there are other cars around you, but either way it's super easy to turn off and might be able to be unplugged as well. it's not a big deal at all lol

Man, sometimes the way people whine about these things is nuts.

Yeah it's not ideal but it doesn't hurt the driving experience at all. And it's not some unique thing either.

Surely they're trying to sell all of them by year end right
Not sure.. I was at Longo for vehicle service on another Toyota besides my 24' GRC. I noticed people checking out 25' GRCs were all middle age men (like myself).
By the time I was about to leave, there was 1 less white '25 GRC Premium+ on the lot. Perhaps, there will be 1 more happy middle age male in Los Angeles this weekend.

Apparently in Japan the 2025MY has a “Circuit Mode” feature. It changes some settings when the car knows it’s at a circuit in Japan. it also unlocks a different tachometer in the gauge cluster.

CIRCUIT MODE | サーキットモード

A Special Vehicle Setting Mode That Can Only Be Experienced on the Circuit – “Circuit Mode”

By releasing restricted controls, “Circuit Mode” further enhances the vehicle’s inherent performance. Using GPS-based positioning, it recognizes when the vehicle is on a circuit and adjusts settings accordingly. It improves acceleration response to match the characteristics of major circuits across Japan and raises the speed limiter so that the vehicle is not restricted on the track.

Using a Smartphone for Dedicated Vehicle Settings

You can easily turn Circuit Mode ON/OFF and configure various settings via a smartphone app. By operating it through the GR Corolla’s dedicated buttons, the settings are optimized in real-time for circuit driving.

Settings That Can Be Changed
• Anti-lag
• When activated, it adjusts the engine to optimize fuel supply, air intake, and ignition timing, improving acceleration and responsiveness.
• Speed Limiter
• The speed limiter is adjusted to prevent restrictions on the circuit.
• Cooling Fan (Maximum Wind Power)
• Maximizes cooling fan output to maintain optimal engine coolant temperature.
• Shift Timing Indicator
• Displays shift timing support information at the optimal timing.

Dedicated Circuit Mode Meter Display

The exclusive meter display features LED indicators for shift timing and other important data, providing real-time vehicle status updates and shift timing support to help the driver on the circuit.

For More Details on Circuit Mode:

This mode is designed to optimize the GR Corolla’s performance specifically for track driving, allowing greater control over acceleration, cooling, and shift timing.

They always get the coolest stuff haha (inb4 they add all of that to the MY26 Prem+)

Got mine (PRM 6-Spd) about a month ago and I think the sub-radiator setup is so well thought out I really want to look into the OEM ATF cooler on the LH side in case there is a potential there for an OEM(ish) way to cool the transfer case reliably.

I didn't touch sport mode for the first 700 miles or so and it actually scared me the first time withe the sudden speaker noise and now rarely use it.
For me its too distracting.... It just comes on suddenly around 3-4K (where I drive the most) and its not a gentle ramp its like an on/off switch and it distracts me every time...

I don't mine hearing what I assume is muffler valve opening ocassionaly under high boost in Normal mode (in fact I like it) but its really good to hear that custom mode won't do the same thing (another curious design choice).

Custom mode on my car absolutely had ESE (the loud noise enhancement you referred to) the same as Sport, because both use the Sport engine setting on my car. The only way to avoid ESE is to not use modes using that engine setting (Eco, Normal, or Custom w/Eco) and/or by turning off ESE (in the Carista app or by the dealer).

I checked today and @WellsB was correct. Setting Custom engine mode to sport does not have any artificial noise and now that I'm finally experiencing sport mode its like night and day vs Normal mode!
I guess I avoided it purley bc of the annoying ESE because now Custom mode is quickly becoming my preffered state!
The throttle is so much more responsive I didn't realize how relaxed it was in normal until I switched back and forth and now its crazy different.
Like two different cars!
Probably going to live 50/50 normal / custom now thanks so much for telling us!!!

Can turn off the ESE sport noise with carista 👍
