Wow I’ve never joined a forum so early :)

Hi I’m Dom I’ve been on a lot of forums. I’ve had 3 BRZ’s currently have a few deposits for a GR86. I’ve had the GR Supra but it wasn’t really my taste. I like cheaper Japanese cars With good driving feel.

My daily driver is a 6-speed Corolla Hatchback. I was so impressed with this car when it was launched in 2019. Back then there were already reports of a “GTI-level Corolla” so I was always waiting for confirmation for this “Corolla hot hatch.”

The impression that the Corolla Hatchback left on me was so good that I knew a hot hatch Corolla would be fantastic and an instant classic. I have high expectations for the GR Corolla which I know will be met. If Toyota is putting the GR-Four drivetrain and the G16E-GTS engine on even the current Corolla hatch platform it’s going to be amazingly good. This is why I’m so excited for it and have pledged to be one of the first to get this car.

Likewise!

Except this is my first time on a forum, mainly out of the need for more info on the GR Corolla. Not 100% sure about it but if the specs and pricing is right, I might just be one of the first to own one.

Any pics of your BRZ's and the DD?

I drive a Yaris currently.

I have a 2016 gti and I love it. But before I got it, I was strongly considering type R but thought it was too expensive. Since the values have kept up, I'd be down to buy the new GR Corolla.

The regular Corolla hatch looks super legit. With a new front end and flared fenders, the GR will look even better.

I'm a bit bummed that the teaser image is hinting at 267 HP vs the earlier rumored 296 hp. But maybe this will help keep the price under $40k.

Welcome to the forum everyone! Great to see so many new people!

@Veloist Would you get the GR Corolla along with your GR86 or would it replace the GR86? What about the Supra didn't you like?

@GRolla What year is your Yaris, how long have you had it for?

@Umar Yeah that's going to be interesting if the GR Corolla doest have 267 hp like the GR Yaris. Maybe Toyota will have something in mind to make it a bit lighter. Is your GTI a 2 door or 4 door?
I have a '09 Corolla with a stick and 3 pedals. Just passed 200k miles. I was about to jump on the Tacoma wagon but word of the GRC becoming a reality is making me reevaluate my entire life. This may go against racing purist opinions, but a rally spec'd GRC with AT tires, WRC inspired wheels, 2" lift, roof rack, pod lights, and some mud flaps would make my eyes wetter than drinking Baileys from a shoe.

I think a rally spec is the fitting way to build the GR Corolla since it's getting so much from the GR Yaris. Are you going to paint water colors of your GR Corolla that are as close as you can get without your eyes getting wet?

I've been on many forums but I've never been a part of something so early either. It's pretty cool to be a part of this from the beginning. I never thought I would see a Corolla like the GR Corolla. I've owned many Corollas over the years and even turbocharged my 2009 Corolla S 5MT which improved the experience a lot. I also own a 2017 Corolla iM 6MT hatchback and that car is a lot of fun too as I've added up to 180bhp now.

I've never owned a BRZ/FRS but the GR86 looks like a lot of fun too. I've owned 3 1st Gen MR2's and currently own a 1989 Supercharged MR2 5MT.

This adventure with the GR Corolla is going to be an amazing one for us all!

An offroad/rally spec is exactly what this car needs. It'll hopefully share so much with the GRY, making it basically a slightly modified homologation car anyway. I've said it on this forum in a different thread but I'm doing a full rally build on it. Hoping to be able to switch from a tarmac setup, to gravel/dirt, to snow in a heart beat in ride stiffness, ride height, and different wheels/tires. Would love to be able to do it all right at home in my garage. I work at a Subaru dealer and I've always wanted to do the same to an STI but they're not as reliable as I'd like as a Toyota would be and Subaru has really lost its rally heritage and spirit

Right on! I think it’s going to be great. The team that worked on the GR YARIS put a lot of detail and engineering into it. The same people which is a specific team that apparently only works on GR cars, will also work on the GR Corolla.

Oh yeah definitely! I don’t have many good pics of my older cars but here they are.

True but with current inflation in the auto industry happening that $40k is becoming pretty typical. A fully loaded MK8 GTI Autobahn is like $45k! Honestly I can see $35k-$40k on this car. Or like $38,995 plus destination an delivery.

I’m a huge fan of the MK7 and MK7.5 GTI. When I had my BRZ I was looking for a second car and test drove a 2015 GTI and fell in love. 3 years later (around the time of the first “Corolla GTI” I picked up a 2018 GTI as a lease and loved it so much. I heard the new MK8 isn’t as good.

Yup! The GR86 and GR Corolla will be my dynamic duo hahaha. I think those cars will complement each other so well. When I had a GTI and BRZ they covered so much of my tastes for cars.

The Supra was a fast car and could pull nicely. Most of the fun I had in the car was from doing pulls. I felt that without experience with it on the track, there was a lot of responsibility trying to drive it spiritedly. Also it wasn’t as engaging as a sports car as I thought. Partly due to the lack of a manual but also I feel the steering was pretty vague compared to the BRZ’s I had.

Love the cars! I love the 12th Gen Corolla XRS in classic silver, it looks sharp. Both my 2009 Corolla S Turbo 5MT and 2017 Corolla iM 6MT are the same color and I love the clean look of them in silver.

I've heard similar things about the steering which sucks given how important that is on a car like this. The one thing I'll give Toyota/BMW about the Supra is that they definitely understated how powerful it actually is.

I'm hoping that Aiko makes sure that all phases of the GR Corolla are as good the GR Yaris since this is what we get for the NA market.

It’s going to be built in Motomachi most likely since GR Yaris is built in a section dedicated to GR vehicles. If this is true, which makes sense, even if it’s not as CRAZY as the Yaris, you’ll get unmatched quality.

the people who built the LFA would be some of the people putting together our little sport compacts 😂
Saying your car is built in the same factory as the LFA will be such a bragging right😂
"Well, it is built in the same place they built the LFA. So, it's basically just as good." - my sarcastic response to somebody questioning my (possibly poor) financial decisions.

Well someone would question us buying a high priced Corolla in general. 😂
