I am going to have a chance coming up in a few years to have up to 2 cars shipped from JP to US for free, trying to decide what I should get. What would you get that is 98 or older? I am definitely thinking of getting a Celica GT-FOUR as one, but not sure on the other.

What makes this GTR special? I am not too familiar with it
Duuude! Learn your history, youngsters….
It is the ultimate Skyline in my book. The one that started it. The first and best!
Sweet engine, timeless style, great performance for its time and can still hold its own.

I noticed you have a gt4, how do you like it? also, what is the RC?
RC was a limited edition they did to homologate it further for WRC. 5,000 units were made total. The RC got:
  • a water-to-air intercooler instead of the standard air-to-air unit, which was much better suited for competition use.
  • different hood used to evacuate air from the engine bay rather than direct it to the intercooler (along with a small inlet duct for timing belt cooling).
  • different bumper that is much lighter and has more openings than the standard one.
  • shortened shift lever throw and clutch pedal travel.
  • triple cone synchromesh on gears 2 and 3, up from double cone.
  • a special numbered plaque on the center console.

I've owned it for over 11 years now so I definitely like it haha. They aren't the fastest and they're a tad heavy but they're great cars overall. I haven't owned much to compare it to but a few friends with Subarus have said they prefer how the GTFours feel to drive.

The RC was a top-spec they made for homologation purposes. Toyota made 5000 homologation versions worldwide, 1800 of them were RC's sold in Japan. The rest were the CS (Europe) and the GrpA (Australia). Compared to the GRC it's sort of like a Morizo in terms of where it sits in the model range. There were a lot of changes to them from the standard GTFour, some large, some small. It has a different front bumper and crash bar, rear crash bar, hood, intercooler (WTA vs ATA), air flow meter, ECU tuning, transmission gearing, turbo, rear torsen LSD, etc etc. Which in turn affected lots of other stuff so things like the washer tank, trans mount, starter, wiring harness, air filter box, throttle body coupler, etc are all different too.

I considered going to a 6th gen GTFour, but functionally they're pretty similar except a 6th gen is annoying to get parts for here because it doesn't have a US equivalent like the 5th gen. Lots of Americans who didn't pay attention to what the Canadians were doing are now experiencing the fun of trying to source brake pads only found overseas. Or front SuperStrut parts lol.
