So I found a meme about it first but looking it up, there's several articles on the fact Toyota is patenting a manual trans for EV's

That would be cool, not sure how true to a Gasoline manual that experience would be keeping in mind that electric motors don‘t have power curves….
It'll be interesting to see. People have done EV swaps and kept manual transmissions. Doesn't seem quite worth it but it at least gives you that feel that you can change gears and change your gear ration whenever you desire. RichRebuilds on YouTube swapped a manual Mini Cooper to EV and it demostrates what can be done with an EV and manual. Basically seems like you'll just have a stick and pedal to emmulate gear changes the same way CVT's in current cars simulate a gear shift when there really is no gears to shift. It's also very interesting that the patent says there are basically three modes in that you can do traditional clutch and stick driving or you can swap to a more seqential style where you don't even need the clutch or you can have it in fully automatic mode
That's cool!

I think a gasoline experience would be possible to simulate accurately, but it feels silly to arbitrarily limit the EV motor for that experience.
I wonder if it will have positive range impacts, though I doubt it since most EV's are optimized for range (like how automatics are better at MPG than manuals when the inverse was true during the earlier stages of autos).
We'll have to see. It basically simulates a gas engine by limiting the electric motor so the lower gears have more toque but a lower top speed and higher gears are the opposite. I'm sure in terms of range, you could probably get the same range but I could see losing range in manual mode since you are deciding what "gear" it is in and thus you could be choosing the wrong setup for range
