Toyota is launching a program to remanufacture cars to "the best standard" at least twice after their first use cycle. It would likely be off lease cars that get returned to the factory. After going through three use cycles cars would then be recycled responsibly. The program will launch in the UK and could eventually be in the US.

I mean that would be nice for people who only buy used cars.
I don't think it is for me. I do like knowing that I put all the km on the car/truck. I dont have really any hobbies so I dont mind spending a few dollars on having a new car which is my hobby I suppose. My 2nd cars I have bought used FRS MR2. Super excited for a toy/2nd car that will be brand new I plan on keeping for a long time

It's an interesting concept and my interest would solely depend on the price. I'm more likely to buy a cheap cheap car, or a new car. I'm not a big fan of used cars that cost more than 10k; a lot of risk, typically with no warranty and no guarantee that the car didn't have a rough history. I would hope a factory refurbishment would come with some sort of warranty. That might be worth it.

I think if they are older than 3 yrs where that warranty ran out they would prob give another yr as a bit of piece of mind
I'm sure they would give it some kind of warranty, especially if it's sold by Toyota dealers. It would have to have a better than Toyota certified pre-owned warranty to warrant getting a refurbished over a used car

Too bad it would most definitely only apply to lease return vehicles, loaner cars, or newer trade-ins 😢
Honestly, I would totally consider buying a rebuilt Toyota. If they go through all these problems to make it like new, why not save some money and help the environment? Besides, Toyota is known for its quality, so I'm sure it will be a great car. I don't even have to worry about how to get the car to me since I have already dealt with Shipaa, which provides a car transport service. So if I ever need to buy a new car, I will definitely consider Toyota. I wish you the best of luck and all the best.

100% this. It's much less wasteful. If they're going to offer a factory warranty on it like a new car, then that would be a great deal. Fix up all the mechanicals, replace any worn interior/exterior parts and ship it.

My company has a recon/ refurbishment facility. We completely disassemble / inspect/ rebuild / test our products. I seriously doubt any of that will happen. This just sounds like a rebranding of a certified pre owned car at a higher price. Would you rather purchase a certified pre-owned vehicle through this program with no known history of say oil change intervals or find a 1 owner private sale car with extensive maintenance history?

There is no right or wrong answer.
