On Saturday I went to out a deposit on the GR Corolla. The salesperson was unsure of the car or even if we would be getting it. I offered to place a deposit on one until I heard back, which they declined. They weren’t dismissive of it, but I could sense they didn’t know a lot about the car at all. They were surprised there would be a GR version.

Got this yesterday. I’m beyond sad.

I wouldn't worry. Dealers really don't know a lot about this car right now. If that's your favorite dealer maybe wait until Toyota does the official unveiling since they are turning people down right now you won't have to worry about anyone being ahead of you.

I'm willing to bet they got their wires crossed with the GR Yaris. After you left, they probably reached out to someone else and like the game telephone, something got dropped/miscommunicated - "Yeah, we have someone here talking about a GR Hatchback?" "No, we aren't getting that"

That answer seems way too definitive to be about the GR Corolla, especially about the overseas part - are they even teasing the GR Corolla in other countries at this time?

Unsure if they're teasing it but articles from Japan, Europe and Australia all seem hopeful or convinced it'll be in their markets because why not? The Corolla is already a global model and with it having the same engine as the GR Yaris, it passes the emissions standards already. I'm sure the dealer just misunderstood as other Canadian members seem to have dealers either letting them wait or saying they have no details

Agree on what @TOYYODA said, go to a different dealer.

I'm in contact with my rep from our local dealer here when the GR Yaris was about to be unveiled but we never had it so when he heard about this news regarding the GR Corolla he was the first one to email me that I was the first one on his mind.

Anyway, @Omniboo the rep that you spoke to doesn't have any knowledge about this, he or she might be working there just a regular employee that is there 8-5, not even an enthusiast.

True! I need to be more patient.

I just heard of it 2 weeks ago myself and decided this is the car to replace my Subaru Impreza. Several bad experiences with VW made me veto the Golf R (as stunning as it is).

My dealer doesn’t want to take any money from me. He said that they need to confirm with the unit first before they take some deposit, which is more reasonable

I'm now revising this answer. I already placed my deposit as the 1st on their list (it happened yesterday 22 March 2022)

To what Kirk said on his video, 1 per dealership, maybe an initial batch. Wow!
