The upcoming anime adaptation for the manga MF Ghost is set to release later this year. I do have mixed opinions on whether this show will be any good (I mean a hardly modified GT86 keeping up with Ferraris and Lamborghinis with more than twice the horsepower is just plot armor stronger than what Takumi used in the final episode of Initial D: Fourth Stage) Would have preferred the story to be a prequel of Initial D, Internal Combustion vs Electric, or even just Car vs Motorcycle. However this anime turns out, the soundtrack for sure will contain eurobeat since Manifold Love plays in the teaser. Dave Rodgers also has released 10 original songs early this year and last year, some themed around cars and Initial D. I also recall that Bratt Sinclaire mentioned in the Youtube comment section (I believe it was a reply) for one of his videos (his Youtube channel is SinclaireStyle) that he was making a deal with Avex to feature some of his songs in the soundtrack for MF Ghost (if anyone can find which video of his he commented this on, it would be appreciated)

I'm just curious as to how they'll make the show interesting. The first 100 chapters of the manga has been really boring.

There's rules that get explained at the beginning where cars have to balance horsepower with the width of their tires or something like that. Also plot armor.

There is a rare instance of an anime having superior writing over its source material. As for MF Ghost, most of the plot from manga should be altered or rewritten from the ground up if they want the characters to be memorable or have any rewatchability. I also hope the CG quality for the cars improve massively by the time the anime releases. The horsepower balance is not a bad idea but I think this would only give Kanata a chance with cars under 350 horsepower such as the Renault Alpine A110. Anything with more power however just won’t make the show believable even with the horsepower balance. So another rule which should be included to is to allow cars with less horsepower or torque (depending on how much it weighs and how quick it accelerates) to be modified but not allowed to give more hp/torque than its rival. Also what could be done with the writing for when Kanata races any car with a significantly higher power output is to have him lose and understand the limitations within his own car. Then have his GT86 be tuned to the amount of horsepower similar to what his current rival might have, maybe alter the transmission to have short/long gears depending on the track. And of course, the higher amounts of power would put a strain on the stock internals of his GT86 so have his engine fail or catch fire when his car has more power than what it could handle. This is starting to sound like Initial D but with more losing but I think this would make the plot less predictable and more tense.

What made Initial D great was how the main character, most of the side characters, and even some of the antagonists had lives outside of racing through the hills. They still feel human and you can relate with some of them. Even if there was some issues with the almost nonexistant romance regardless if the characters had feelings for eachother and having something being in the way of their relationship causing it to end completely (Takumi and Mogi being the exception due to what happened in Second Stage)
Regardless of the lives the characters have outside of racing being mentioned, it almost never got in the way of the plot. Initial D also has to be one of the few animes in which the main character has a father that is both alive, present, and has somewhat consistent screen time.

I have not read more than 10 chapters of MF Ghost so I don’t know what happens throughout the drama sequences. I don’t care if you spoil it for me (although if you do decide to post a summary in this thread, put a spoiler warning for anyone else) Does it interrupt the main plot excessively? I am still kind of scared on how the anime adaptation will turn out

Filler? Yeah the anime will flop and not last more than one season if the plot is 1:1 with the manga.

I wonder if Kanata is going to get way outclassed in his turbo GT86 so then he decides to go race with the GR Yaris or GR Corolla. That would be in contrast with Initial D where Takumi did drive Bunta's GC8 STi on occasion for deliveries, but never actually raced with it. The GR Yaris is the perfect hero car for modern times.

Higher chance that the GR Yaris MIGHT make an appearance due to it being released around 3 years before MF Ghost was announced. Would be cool to see both cars make an appearance

Oh for sure, I’m just saying the main differences between the 2 so far. I’m just hoping the anime breathes new life into it.

Expecting to see or a Yaris appear in the anime as an easter egg for a solid 5 seconds in the background trying to blend in with the other parked cars with Takumi's face just peeking out the window as Kanata mentions that he is trying to find his father. Won’t have my hopes too high however

Tbh MF Ghost would be much more fun if it was a long game of hide and seek with Takumi appearing at the most random scene just blending in the background despite having the most distinctive appearance and Kanata never noticing even when he looks the direction Takumi is standing.
