Looking to get one

I reckon this is my intro. I was a Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician for many decades. I started as a Toyota tech in 1983 when the first (ugly) Camry came out. After 35 years turning wrenches, I became the Service Manager at a dealer I worked at for more than 32 years. I just retired, but not before making them very aware that I'm pretty sure I want a Heavy Metal Circuit Edition. I might settle for a Supersonic Red Circuit Edition, or maybe a Core edition Edition in SS Red if it has all three big option packages, Technology, Performance, and Cold Weather...maybe. I've been told that after More than 32 years with the company, I'll get first right of refusal on any that come in. I have zero interest in a black or white one. That leaves few choices. Heavy Metal Circuit will still be my first choice. My current daily driver is a 5-speed Release Series xD (my second one). I love that little car, and if there are any "deal-breakers" on the GR, so be it. I also have a Supercharged, lifted, TRD Tacoma in the garage with way too many mods to list. So, waiting and watching like everybody else here. At last I have a slight advantage at actually procuring one. Time will tell.

D Dave

Southwest Ohio...Dayton area.

Welcome! I’m not too far from you in central OH. I think Cptnslo once said he was in the Cinn area. Don’t all of our Toyota cars go through Cinn? I could be wrong about that. I’m 3rd on my list behind a dealer slot and a Toyota tech at the dealership. Congrats on your position on the list, it truly sounds like you earned it. I hope you get the one you want.

There are three "distributorships" in the US. Gulf States Toyota, South East Toyota, and Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). There are multiple "Regions" within TMNA, and multiple "Districts" within each region. The Cincinnati region encompasses all of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. There are twelve districts in the Cinci region (121 dealers total). I'm in district 6 which covers most of the metro Dayton and Cinci areas. How these cars will be allocated (with such low production numbers) is anybody's guess. COVID changed everything. You can't order a car. You request your preferences and hope for the best. My understanding is that my dealer has five names on a list, and I get first right of refusal. Make no mistake, I want one. But with so few details still available, there could still be a deal-breaker in there for me. I'm waiting and watching for this to unfold, just like everybody else here.
Thanks for the welcome! 😁

Welcome!

That Tacoma sounds like it's a blast to drive. Is it set up for offroading? That SC'd engine would give you a ton of low end torque for getting through mud and over rocks.

It does have a lot of low end torque. Something I discovered the hard way is that if you're crawling up a really steep hill in 4L, it WILL break the clutch loose! No bueno.

Welcome aboard! I feel like there are a lot more of us Ohioans lurking on the forum. I'm in southeast Ohio, still driving my Tacoma XtraCab I bought in '03. What a great generation of truck that's been! I envy the supercharger on your version. Here's to hoping your retirement starts off with a big win landing a GRC!
Hello from Liberty Township Ohio! Kings Toyota has told me they are sold out at their dealer. Performance Toyota says they are not taking pre-orders. Hoping a sale falls through haha
Thanks for all the warm welcomes! My daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren live in liberty Twp. It's about a half hour from me in Centerville. My dealer has five names on a list and I don't believe they're taking any more, nor do I think they'll actually get that many. So I'm pretty happy to have a slight advantage in the pecking order. I used to have a custom plate on the Taco that said "4S FED 4X" (force fed 4-by), but nobody could figure it out, so I switched it to "BLWN 4WD". That's one expensive license plate. I have one picked out for the GRC if I actually get one, but I'm keeping that under my hat for now. 😁 Time will tell.

So I don't know if anyone/everyone has seen this page or not...maybe everybody else has and I'm just late to the party. Anyway, I ran across this one that had a TON of information I hadn't previously seen on the GRC. It's kind of a long read, but again, lots of good info. I definitely gleaned some new info

Has anyone found a good picture of the Heavy Metal? Until reading the previously mentioned article, I thought Heavy Metal was the matte finish gray, but it seems that's not correct. That matte gray is apparently reserved for the Morizo Edition (at a HEFTY premium). From what little I've seen of it, Heavy Metal looks a lot like the "Super-Chrome" finish on my wife's Rav Wheels. Not sure I'm down with that. Everything else we have is red, what's one more red vehicle in the driveway/garage? 🙄
So, same question, anybody found a really good picture of the Heavy Metal?

There's a guy in my neighborhood with a Supersonic Red TRD Avalon. I was driving past it today and stopped in front of his house to just sit and look at it for awhile. I'm definitely rethinking my position on the Heavy Metal.

Supersonic red or heavy metal for me, I'd be happy with either one.
