To me they should call it something else. To me the LFA legend is that it was a no holds barred bespoke from ground up Toyota supercar, not built off an existing platform.

It's going to be built around that platform because it's just a global structure. Sure it's not fully bespoke but we're talking about a normal manufacturer, not Porsche or Lambo, etc where people justify the price. People complained about the LFA's price tag when it came out so to lower costs, they wanna build it on the global platform.
They state it in the article: "The flagship sports car will be built around Toyota's TNGA-L architecture and abandon the carbon chassis structure that was seen on the original LFA. A motivation for this is so that it can be sold at a more reasonable price than the $375,000 2010 sports car."

Not an existing car, no but an existing platform, yes. I'm sure they'll pull a GRY and probably combine some platforms or modify it
