Knowing what people are wanting above you in the waiting list can help you decide what you want in order to get it sooner.

I asked my dealer to keep my info private, so...yeah.
I think it helps cause if dealers are only getting 3 cars allocated to them allegedly. Why put your deposit down if your not in the top 5? Your better off finding another dealer and trying to secure a better position
I hope not. Not everything needs to be everyone’s business and not everything needs to be on the internet.

Well I think it depends... when the Focus RS came out the guy with the 1st allocation asked if he could get the other two people's info just to share info about the car, talk about forums, etc. Dealer asked if I was ok with that and I was, the 3rd person wasn't.

When the BRZ first came out I knew all the first people because I got them all deals, but the dealer shared my info with some of the later buyers and we would meet up for beers and wings while waiting.

But.. that was all with consent. I don't believe that they should share your personal information WITHOUT consent. They can say "we are only getting 3 and you are number 6 on our list" - that's fine.. and not personal information. That's all they should need to share to suggest you talk to other dealers.

I’m not saying private info such as name but I mean as far as where you are in the rankings. It’s good info to know. Example I have a couple dealers near me. One said I was gonna be slot #6 but they were doing a $10k markup. I told them hell no. Called a different dealer and was Told their markup will not be $10k and i will have the number one slot. So I went with the second dealer based on info given to me by the first.

Yeah that's all fine for sure IMO.

IMO: These are not private info at all, in fact those should be written down for transparency & fairness. If not written, at least communicated.

"2 ahead of you, both wanting the Circuit Edition, you'll be number three if you want to go ahead. Subject to pricing and availability." should be the bare minimum when processing the transaction.

I got clouded with FOMO and suckered into a shitty position now, "3 or 4 ahead, I can take your credit card now if you want to get in line... yea yea its refundable". Then I completely got ghosted after $500 went through when I followed up and simply asked for my exact position in their CE queue. I will be very upset, but won't be surprised, if I somehow am position # 30 by now because magical things happened.

Legally I am certain you can protect yourself. Get the terms of your deposit written out including the mark up and allocation position and have the dealer sign it. It’s not a contract for a particular car, it’s a contract for the 3rd right of refusal for a car and a violation is likely actionable
