Info needed for AWD systems: GRY vs Evo vs FoRS vs STI

Does anyone here have detailed information for how AWD systems compare between these cars? I’ve driven all of these cars and they all behave differently. I’m curious to see some reading materials or comparisons to see if GRY/ GRC AWD system will be industry leading or that’s expecting too much.

Your best bet is to look through the GR Four AWD thread then compare it to the other systems. Biggest issue you’ll find is us being obviously biased towards the Corolla. Only con I see with the GR Four system is it can overheat from constantly slipping, which is by design.

Maybe @Guff can ask during the media drive about the AWD system.

The GRY/GRC has an overdriven rear Torsen style diff with a clutch pack on the driveshaft to transfer torque.

The Focus RS has overdriven rear diff with a clutch pack on each axle.

The Lancer Evo 8 and 9 had an Active Center Differential that would transfer torque front to rear depending on traction and was locked in a 50/50 split under normal driving. Japanese Evo's had Active Yaw Control that the US market didn't see until the Evo X which transfers torque from side to side.

Like Jeonsa said, you're better off looking in the other thread where we go over a lot of AWD systems(Subaru, Toyota, Honda, Audi, etc). Someone had even posted a video comparing the GRY to a FoRS on rollers. The GRY/GRC is not industry leading on on its AWD system, or really anything tbf. It takes something that existed and improves upon it

a lot of things.

all of the drivetrain basically the ECU, number of differentials, engine bias / layout, transmission / differential gearing + material times, and handling characteristics based on weight / ECU.
