Getting excited to see what they finally end up doing here. I've been driving a 2009 WRX hatchback, and while it's been a fantastic car I've got 171,000 miles on it and would like to get into something a little more modern, but as fun as this car was. I'm eager to see what the GR Corolla is going to be like, honestly hoping for a copy/paste of the GR Yaris, but wouldn't mind it at all with 5 doors instead of 3.

Hey @meebs welcome to the forum! I think in all likelihood it's going to be a 5 door. I can't see Toyota selling a 3 door version. But I hope everything else is pretty much copied from the GR Yaris.

As a Subaru fan what do you think of the new WRX? It seems like Subaru missed the mark from a design point at least.

Yeah the 22 WRX... oof. I just can't do the black plastic and the odd rear bumper. As petty as that sounds... just no. I had my money ready too, and was really hoping for a wagon version but would have settled for a sedan. Also, while everyone's mad at the power... let's be realistic. The WRX and for that matter the GR Yaris/Corolla, are based off of rally cars, not sports cars. So honestly the fact that it's roughly the same power didn't bother me at all there. I've been with Subaru since 2001 (01 2.5 RS > 04 WRX wagon > 09 WRX hatch), and was a fan of the WR Car era of WRC (late 90's into the 2000's)... so that's where my heart is. Really hoping Toyota captures that rally feel with the GR Corolla as they did exactly with the GR Yaris.

That was definitely my favorite era of Subarus. Once the third gen Imprezas started coming their designs have been hit and miss for me personally. It seems like with this new WRX Subaru is a bit confused about what they want to do with the car aesthetically. I'm sure the performance will still be great but it's a real head scratcher.

Yeah ever since the last gen, the WRX/STI have drifted more towards sports car and less of rally car. I'm thinking the big reason is Subaru doesn't compete in WRC anymore since 2007, they compete in NARA and ARX where the rules aren't quite as strict as WRC meaning Subaru doesn't need to make a homologation style rally-bred car anymore.
