Hey all,

Long time rally fanboy, first time Toyota owner, LONG time Subaru guy. My GR corolla has landed today on my dealers lot and I'm headed to pick it up tomorrow. very excited to see it in person! This will be a daily for me, to keep the miles off my 06 STi that I adore.

I can’t explain the luck I have, but just know I have been a long time Corolla fan. From my AE86 days to the Corolla XRS 2005 (2ZZGE) to my daily 6 spd Corolla Hatchback, my GRC experience for the 2 days of ownership have been incredible.

I’m down here in Texas and took delivery from a dealer in San Antonio.

I already have 600 miles on it due to unexpected travel between 3 cities and this is my daily / future track car. For now, keeping it street. Have already put it thru its paces and I cannot express the joy into words of this vehicle.

Only wish I could’ve been able to obtain a Circuit Edition. Luckily, I did have a pretty loaded Core edition including the LSD package (thank god no open diff lol).

I seriously can’t think of any immediate upgrades other than some dress up parts (hatch wing, shift knob, etc.) but would love a little more power, cooling upgrades, spacers, and a spare set of wheels.

Glad to meet y’all!

Hopefully you didn’t get hosed on markup
I wouldn't doubt it, heard all San Antonio dealers were charging at least $10k ADM.
y’all can speculate the OTD, but I would not pay anything but a reasonable price. I am not a kid and know how to negotiate haha.

What dealer in San Antonio if you don't mind me asking?
not too important to be honest. just know my “home” dealership here where I am wasn’t really loyal to me and this one made it right.

I asked to be put on a waitlist when I bought the 2021 blue flame Corolla XSE and they said they would, but as you know dealerships lie.

y’all are 🤡ning for real. Dealer options include a LSD. The core doesn’t come with it. It’s an upgrade you want and it is definitely “above” MSRP with options I wanted

Anything above MSRP is not a reasonable price. Congrats on the car though!
lol.

Very nice, and welcome from Fort Worth!

Be sure to check in on the Texas Roll Call thread when you get a chance. Once we all get our cars, I can see a GRCTX meetup thread happening 👊

DM me on Instagram w the same handle apex_gr. I am just casually checking in here not often.

Do y’all have an Instagram page? I’m down. I was just in Dallas this week.
Joining and immediately coming at people while in the same breath not knowing what you're talking about isn't a great look.

Can we just get a total price? Many here are worried about markup.
Not quite sure why it is an issue to spill the beans since the car is already yours...

I can promise you I didn’t pay markup, but I’m not going to tell you much more. Y’all know everything. Typical forum peeps lol.

Why would he disclose? It’s not anyone else’s business.

This forum is due for a reckoning. New members are arriving, excited to share the car, and the first responses they get from the same few power users are “what dealer?” and “what did you pay?” Why do you care? What are you going to do with that information?

Is the community going to welcome new owners, or divide them into worthy / unworthy based on whether they paid MSRP? I see so much gate keeping about what is perceived to be the right and wrong ways to buy the car.

Why are you just making something up? You have no idea what happened.

This guy gets it. Finance + everything else. I’m not gonna disclose. Just know I am in a good spot. Can’t speak for everyone else.

Common courtesy for newbs to make an intro thread as well, which didn't happen in his case. His first post was "I'm a Toyota fanboy, and I'm the luckiest one by far! Look at my gorgeous black GRC! Oh and can't forget to plug my IG, so follow me there! Ok then, tootles!"
I'm paraphrasing of course, but you get the idea.

lmao. y’all are literally stuck in 2005 w your attitudes on forums 😂 you want me to post it so bad it’ll just make you look foolish.

MSRP is manufacturer’s suggested retail price.
If a dealer sells at MSRP then the dealer agrees with manufacturer.
If a buyer buys at MSRP then the buyer agrees with the manufacturer.

Guess what, we pay mark-up on so many things. Food, health insurance, car insurance, property taxes, income taxes…you name it.

Anyways congrats on the new car @apex_gr! I’m also coming from a 6spd Corolla HB. Interested in hearing your thoughts on how radically different they are. The Corolla HB handles so well…when I first drove one when they came out I knew right away it would be a perfect platform for a hot hatch.
Thank you! I am really enjoying it. Definitely radically different in many ways and missing a few favorite creature comforts like dual climate control + heated seats :(

Where I’m missing in options it makes up for tremendously. This car is well worth the hype and I believe it’s grossly underestimated in value and potential.

and for the last time, I’m not gonna disclose exact / location of where because I respect the privacy of it all. I was treated well and people here think otherwise because they think they know what’s going on lol.

I explained my story enough to show there’s good people still out there who are car enthusiasts even at dealers without price gouge. People can believe what they want.

All in all, first 1000 miles, I definitely think this car needs to be produced in higher quantities but I doubt that’ll happen. Really just hoping the aftermarket has some substantial support but seeing the production numbers I think it’ll be a few good years.

Do you know that photo is from cold startup? How do you know? It could just as easily have been from a different scenario and we could be seeing temp bleed rates.

Until you have verifiable behaviour information from an actual car, it is all complete speculation. Do you have real information from an actual car? If not I’m going to call you out on it every time because you are just making educated guesses. All you have to do is characterize it as a guess, not as a conclusion.

I look forward to seeing this car profiled to learn if you were wrong or right.

I can tell ya that having raced and built a fairly good number of vehicles, I’ve never seen a scenario where oil and coolant temp were all that close on cold start. Even turbos with oil coolers don’t warm up oil in lockstep in a useful way.
finally. a post from someone who works on cars. +1 lol.

I am speculating because I do have one, but also knowing new tech, anything is possible. Until we know, isolate the issue putting back to stock is the best route to see if you can replicate the issue. I just know he had a few mild mods and even if it may likely be unrelated, there’s always a possibility.
Does yours have the tech package? I dropped by my dealer the other day and he showed me the numbers, almost all Cores have the performance package (which is awesome) but not many have all 3. Wonder if most have at least 2 with the cold weather package being more rare.

I have 2 packages, but also got everything else I wanted. Cold weather package I have no idea what that entails but I’m assuming the heated seats / steering.

Performance
Tech

I do have. Also a lot of other goodies. Would love to swap for the dual climate, heated seats/steering, and suede interior. Too bad. Homegirl misses those options because I like ice cold and she’s always cold 😂.

1 flight and a 14 hour drive later. Good lord is the paint in rough shape though. I was planning on getting it wrapped next year so was tempted to leave the paint alone until then. Dunno if I'll be able to look at those swirl marks and scratches for a year though

Dealer (A1 Toyota) was great to work with though. No BS and I was in and out in a bit over an hour. Just uh, maybe don't let them wash the car before you pick it up...

Mine is in for paint correction, re ceramic, and XPEL due to them taking swirls and scratches to it on delivery. Hopefully get mine back before Wednesday.

I would bring it to their attention immediately. They should be paying. Do not wait.

Not currently unless they update firmware. Camera only activates when you are in reverse. You can adjust some minor color calibration brightness but that’s it.
