I had a 84' back in the day. Sadly it snapped a rod just cruising slowing down off the freeway. Didn't have the money for a rebuild back then so sold it.

GR Corolla today would be what a TRD Corolla would be back then, besides the line became fwd over time anyways. (There was a TRD 2000 version with a 3SGE which would be the closest)I had a 85 Corolla GT-S in coupe form and I would say the GR86 more closely follows that car in 2 door, rwd, naturally aspirated, and low/mid power to weight ratio. The GT-S was never about speed. The GR Corolla is a different animal with 4 doors, AWD, and more horsepower.
I was a Toyota tech when those came out. Loved those cars. They were an absolute blast to drive. I PDId the first one at our dealership.
