I’ll admit I defended their opinion on the car, as the car isn’t for everyone, but them trying to do a long term makes it all sound stupid to me. 😂

they were pretty straight forward negative and others you mentioned were overly positive
And to me, they got the Focus RS, dead wrong. But so did many others. They, like anyone else, are grain of salt material. I’d also take the GR86/BRZ (current) over the S2000 any day of the week. Owned an AP2 and have driven the current BRZ.

Holy shit, Cammisa got a GR Yaris and a Delta Integrale together with a GRC Morizo for a Hagerty Icons video.
Apparently there was Core Performance there as well, but it showed up with a fried clutch so they couldn't use it. Can't wait to see this.

The more I see Yaris comparisons I get a little salty. I love the Corolla and it’s underdog history of course but Toyota could’ve thrown us a bone!

I’m going to be forever salty. The GRY is the car I’ve been waiting 30 years for. What really cranked my craw was the Twatting ToyoUSA did about it. “Do you want it?” Then we signed a petition and I forgot how many signatures it had. Close to 20k last I checked. Can’t have it cuz Murica. Your rally inspired hatchback has to fit baby seats, be a family truckster, etc, etc. Makes me sick.

Just wait another 25 years and you can import one 😁

Sucks about the Core that they can't use. I hate that the Morizo is the one being compared or reviewed with the big names. The Morizo is NOT an accurate representation of the GRC in the real world. A Core or Circuit is. Toyota is subbing in a ringer. While I do understand why Toyota does it, it just doesn't sit right with me since the Morizo is a mere 3% of what Toyota intents to produce for MY2023.

As of right now, it is still the only car I'd trade everything for. I could easily sell my FJ and pay cash for a GRC and have money left over but I'd only do that for the GRY

Toyota could have easily made a couple dozen(hell even a hundred) GRYs to be crashed and safety tested to fulfill government requirements and sold it in the US and Canada. Woulda saved them a ton more money compared to the R&D and tooling and manufacturing costs for another model. Hell, Toyota could have used the GRC engine updates as a mid-cycle refresh for the GRY worldwide too. Toyota could easily scale up or down wolrdwide GRY production depending on demand because now they only have one 3 cylinder car to worry about making. And you know what, people who already have GRYs would have traded up for a mid-cycle refresh. It's fucking baffling to me. But I'm not an executive for the largest car manufacturer in the world.

Also worth noting, Cammisa said on his podcast this week that he prefers the GR Corolla to the GR Yaris, but if he bought one, he would want to put the tune, gears and final drive from the Morizo on the standard car.

I suspect at some point in the life cycle, Toyota will offer a version of this car that is pretty much that. But who knows.
What podcast episode is that?

nvm I found it

North America really is getting shafted for features on the GRC. Seems like the US Cores without options are the most barebones GRCs Toyota can offer lol
The Veloster N was this way in Korea too. They got heated seats and alcantara surfaces and and way better interior materials. Also had a whole catalog of OEM performance parts that dealers don't even sell here. I'm sure it's the same way with the Elantra N. The US always gets the shaft.

that 35,900 price point though

the troubles of selling a car in the US and needing to meet price points. i'm sure they did price studies. look how much people complain about the price as-is. imagine if it was even higher? which is what they'd have to do in order to include all these "extra features" that we don't get. importing a car into the US and meeting US regulations and all this and that is not cheap.

Similar story with the focus RS. The euro models had straight up premium add-ons, front and rear seats had the best looking Recaros I've ever seen.

I like the theory that Toyota was very conservative on features/pricing on the GRC to compete with the CTR but I’m willing to bet that both companies were aware of each others’ prices anyways.
