Damn is that the air intake just behind the dangling connector? If you hit a puddle that's more than ankle-deep you got trouble. This doesn't need an A-pillar snorkel, but come on...my WRX had the intake a full foot higher, never had to worry about water on the (off) road.

That is the brake cooling duct I believe. The intake pipe is up near the headlight.

If anyone is interested, Tirerack now has the GR Corolla available to select wheel/tire packages on its site.

Most notably (at least to me), 18x9.5+38 is one of the sizes that they guarantee a fit for. Previously I had thought the clearance might be tight between the wheel and suspension components, but I guess there's enough to make this work
