Food for thought for the guys who want to run open filter intakes

So I installed my CE hood last week and was able to install my water channels on the underside of the hood today. However after I installed them I got to thinking about the fact that these are designed to channel water that’s collected in the hood vents to pass the oem intake and down into the engine bay. However these open element designs were done before the CE was released so they don’t take into account that these vents exist. I decided to pour some water down my drivers side vent (the only one that matters) and see where it lands. On my prototype intake it’s Landing just behind the new breather or on the lid. However some of these intakes like the MST with their open boxes are going to be like nice buckets collecting all that water and pushing it DIRECTLY under the filter which is inhaling air and potentially water.
it would have to be a significant amount of water to cause issues but food for thought On those looking at open intakes with the CE or CE hood. Car washing without drying or a major rain storm would be 2 areas I’d be a bit uncomfortable with.

At best, a dry air filter will get wet and decrease its efficiency a small amount until dry. A filter like K&N, will most likely repel the small amount of water. My reasons for wanting an enclosed air intake are probably like others here, cooler air temperatures. I hope to be on the list for Sxth Element early on as I like the design/cost factor. I just cannot, for the life of me, justify Eventuri's cost for so little possible benefits.

I agree but it looks so damn good. Seeing it in person at Toyotafest made me want it even more.

I whole-heartedly want this as a donation, gift, reward. I'd probably park it in the garage with the hood open all the time. My wife asked if I wanted it for like father's day. I showed her the price; it would handle next 10 father's days, and a few birthdays days easily! With the engine cover, oil cap, and yellow dipstick; this thing pops!

A lot of overreaction in this thread. It takes A LOT of water to hydrolock. Think of the water sucker the dentist uses in your mouth. Doesn't really do much unless you close your mouth around it. Same thing here.

Also I could be wrong, but I'm 95% certain the hood vents have removable blockers.
The water sucker actually does a lot. You probably only perceive it that way because it works so well, otherwise you’d drown (or have water overflow from your mouth). If the source of the water (vent) is in close proximity to the Vaccum (intake), I could see waterlocking being a potential issue. Maybe more so in every day tasks like washing your car with the engine running, or some other weird situation. Maybe a flash flood. Under normal rainy driving conditions, it’s likely that any water would vaporize by the time it got to the engine so I wouldn’t be too worried. But there’s always that one-off situation.
