Dealer Updates (what's your dealer telling you?)

There is a ton of excitement right now on the forum and its hard to keep up with all the threads, but I thought it would be good to start a thread now to aggregate all the info we are hearing from dealers only.

In the next few days/weeks/months there is going to be a lot of info flying around about ability to spec the cars or not, getting a choice between CP or Core, is there an official specing process, landed dates, build tracking etc etc.

So lets keep this to info you are hearing from your dealer.

I'll start.......i called my dealer again this morning and basically got nothing, haha. Nice kid and said he would shoot me a text as soon as he hears anything but also said "if you hear anything on the forums, let me know and I'll see what I can find with that info".

Seems like he wants to help but not a lot from him right now.

You?

A month ago, I had passed on a circuit edition they were trying to sell me with 14k markup. When I told the salesman "Good luck selling it at that price", he told me that he wasn't worried, he had 3 others in line.

Well guess who sent me a text this morning asking me if I was still interested in a gr corolla? I don't know if it's the circuit edition they're getting or a new allocation, but I got a feeling they couldn't sell it at that price LOL. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

So is it still a 14k markup

Saw a used one going for $54K in Colorado. Told them to send me a picture of the idiot who buys it at that price.

On a side note…

Another GR86 blew up at a HPDE event and Toyota is refusing to honor the warranty. I watched the footage the owner shared and he wasn't even pushing it, engine blew up on a warmup lap

Hell there was a story back in March of a blown GR Corolla motor likely due to money shifting and Toyota still footed the bill on that. Seems like they are really against honoring blown Subaru motors even if the car is driven responsibly on track

Wonder if it's related to the excess rtv issue..

I saw this but I didn’t pay enough attention to see if it was new or the same one from earlier
Corwin is evil. They were the first dealership I called, but I laughed and hung up when they said $15k over.

That Morizo is at Urban. I went to look at it last week. 31 miles on it, IIRC. They are very open about spending more to get what they think their customers want, and charging top dollar. Their market is people who want hard to find trims/options and are willing to pay whatever to get it now. Side note, they have 2x A80 Supras in the showroom as well, but those are the "owner's retirement plan"

He never addressed the issue, so it likely is a factor.

Shit you literally never have to worry about in any other car... I loved my STI but I do not miss wondering if today is the day when I get stranded on the side of the road šŸ˜‚

Yea, I mean there definitely should be a recall from Subaru and Toyota to address the issue. But with that being said, why would you track a GR86 or BRZ without first dropping the pan and cleaning up and excess RTV that may be lodged inside the pickup? I mean, everyone in that community knows it's an issue. Not defending Toyota's decision to not cover the engine, but c'mon now. Play stupid games and win stupid prizes. šŸ¤·šŸ»

I think you're overestimating how many people who own a certain car are actually knowledgeable on that car. I mean there are multiple people who bought a brand new GRC out the box without even knowing how to drive manual, as an example.
Us on the forum are pretty anal about everything involving our car, but the average sports car owner isn't in it like we are.

On Facebook Marketplace... Looks like a salesman for Landers McClarty in TN. $52k

I mean I agree to an extent, but there is a difference between those individuals who buy the car and never intend on taking it to the track, vs those who track the car (whether occasionally or every chance they get). I can see those who never intend on tracking the car to be uninformed about the RTV issue, but for those who track the car, even occasionally, I find it hard to believe that they are not aware of the RTV issue. I mean those people are probably daily users of the GR86/BRZ forums and are probably members of multiple GR86/BRZ FB groups, where the RTV issue has probably been beaten to death and is probably stickied on the forums under the maintenance section.

Do we know if RTV is an issue on the G16E at all?

Wow, Corwin were prepared to give you an absolute bargain. They told me $25K when I called them in April of last year. šŸ™„

The issue is they went to RTV instead of a proper gasket. It’s a great car and I’m very happy they finally gave it the power it needed. But…this is an engineering failure and just stupid. I thought about buying one and this issue is something Iā€˜m not going to fix for them after dropping 32-35k. Buy a brand new car and have to take it apart to fix an engineering issue for them on my own dime? I already have to do that with each audio system. If I have to do it on the engine I’ll just not buy the car. It’s happening on the WRX’s as well. Same old Subaru, can’t build a decent, solid, engine to save their lives.

There was a dude on one of the GR Corolla facebook groups that kept spamming about his engine blowing up at the track and Toyota not covering it. When I clicked on his profile, it was very clearly a car that car was far from stock. This doesn't look like the same car that I remember, though. This one looks pretty stock.

For a core? If so, maybe that is what they told me. I have it written down at home so I can check. Funnily enough, the red one I've seen several times around my house has/had a Corwin paper plate on front... :censored: (he's on the FB group)

RTV isn't a problem on it's own. I've rebuilt many engines, and used RTV in all of them. Hell, I just used RTV on my GT-Rs engine a few months ago (small jobs, not a full rebuild) and that was AFTER the issue on the 86 was identified. The problem on that engine is how it was applied in that there was too much added. I totally get what you're saying, I'm just trying to fight the "RTV = bad" mentality that's developing because of this.
