Like everyone else I'm pretty excited about the gr Corolla.. but I'm curious about the roof?
Do you think it would be a problem to put a Thule roof rack on that carbon fiber roof or would it be fine?

I wouldn't do it.... But more importantly, why would you want to put a roof rack on a CE GRC? Leave roof racks for the suby boys and girls club of America.

I like to go kayaking through the summer, but that's why I was asking because it seemed reasonable to assume it could cause damage. I was hoping someone here was actually familiar with cf roofs or with working with the material or something. Thanks for your advice about the girls club tho
I mean are you in the top 5 on a list at a dealership? If not, than I wouldn't worry about it, as you won't be getting a CE.

definitely too early to confirm, but the gr yaris seems to be fine according to my google search. It seems like the Toyota style mounts seem to just tighten from the body frame so it should be fine I guess regardless just go for an OEM one to be sure. For reference, our S209 doesn't have the normal mounting points to screw in an OEM roof rack like a standard STI, but our m3 can be mounted even with a carbon roof since it's just pinching the body. To me, it just depends on how they manufactured and designed the roof, if they designed it with the CF roof in mind it should be fine, but if it was something more like the S209 and was an afterthought/ limited production then I might avoid doing so bc they just don't have the proper fitting mounts for it.

While we’re talking about the carbon roof: is it something we wax (doesn’t appear to have a gloss finish, or can we use tire gel on it to keep it looking new, or is there some special treatment to keep it from becoming brittle over time? I keep my Toyotas for life, so my goal is to have a good idea on how to care for it from the get go. I’ve detailed cars for decades, but I’ve never had a carbon roof or even a carbon anything for that matter. Anyone have experience with this?

Apparently there will be crossbars available for the GR Corolla. It didn't clarify if they would be for CE/Morizo or Core model. The crossbars for the standard corolla hatchback do not touch the roof panel at all; they clamp on the door frame. My expectation is that the standard corolla hatch crossbars will fit no issues.

Not sure how Toyota will do it, but most manus have clear coat on CF roofs. I would suggest xpel/ppf/sun protectant film as soon as you get it to protect it. Especially if you are not storing it in a garage.
