I've been talking with a guy at OpenRoad Toyota and he's put my name on the waitlist, but today upped the refundable deposit from $500 to $1000. He said the timeline is around 2 years because every dealer is only getting a few per year. Leads me to think I'm probably some ridiculous number on the list lol hopefully I still get one.

I wonder if there's any real way of knowing how they deal with the list of people. The owner may decide he wants one and then everyone else gets pushed back. What are people going to do if that happens? Are they even going to know. Friends of the sales person may go up the list.

I'm third on my list at Maple ridge. So I was told last December.

Probably just need to be vigilant on our part too. Keeping up to date with news, checking in with your rep from time-to-time… but there’s really not much in our control beyond that. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. Hopefully after the first year craze it’ll be a little easier to get one - anything before two years for me would be a nice surprise :)

Apologies for double posting but did you get an email confirmation? My dealer just sent me a picture of the receipt from running my card for the deposit
It was honestly a pretty unprofessional process. I paid a $1K deposit, and when I asked for a receipt the financing manager basically laughed it off like that was a stupid request. I pushed him on it and he sent me an email that simply stated 'You’re on the GR Corolla list.' I then got verbal confirmation over the phone from the salesman that I was 3rd in line at that dealer. Whole thing feels a bit sketchy, so I'm trying to not get my hopes too far up. Felt like classic dealership good cop / bad cop tactics unfortunately.

It was kinda weird for me too, granted I've never dealt with a dealership at all before. They didn't really know what I was asking about, but they filled out some paperwork on their side and then gave me a receipt with my name and some numbers on it but that's it. Being a larger dealership I guess I have to trust that they won't forget that they took my money lol.

Sounds like we are in a similar boat then. At least it clearly says on my credit card statement 'TOYOTA NANAIMO'. Other than that, I've got no proof. Shows how bad we want this car! (I've never bought a car from a dealer, but I've interacted with lots of them over the years).
I think part of the problem is that the dealers (probably) don't know when the cars will be arriving, which models will be available, and in what quantity. So, the are being pretty cagey when it comes to making promises to customers.

Okay that makes me feel a LOT better. I did put down a deposit with 2 different dealerships and while one guy was more engaged/communicative than the other, it's the same as you guys. Credit card was swiped, a picture of the receipt was sent to me, and they told me I'm on the waitlist.

I guess we really do have to trust our names didn't just get thrown into the void, and that someone will contact us when it's time. :)
