Is this still going on? I am starting to see cars sit that have 5k markups. I am sure they'll sell but for what? I got called on a Type R yesterday that's also available. Seems if these were so hot they'd be gone by now.

Yes. This HIGHLY depends on your area and the areas surrounding you. Generally, east (mostly northeast) and west coast mostly stay around 5-10k markup. Can go higher, and I've seen them sell too.

Type R's are the same story but are usually 10-20k. Sometimes more.

Go anywhere else but these 2 coasts and you're generally going to find MSRP or atleast very close to it.

Generally like @driftingintowalls is saying, middle America is seeing msrp/close or the cars are sitting.
A local dealer to me that I was tracking was certain about their 7k markup and after three weeks of sitting they dropped it to 1k. There are a decent amount of MSRP deals if you do your homework, and there will be more to come as time goes on and cars continue to sit.

This was in late January but the worst markup I have seen was for a GRC Core with only the technology package. Little paper next to the main sticker on the car window showed $65,000 total. Around $25,000 markup for a CORE! It stood for a few weeks but then after checking in the dealer’s website one day to see if it sold, the listing was taken down. Listing lasted longer than the other showroom GRCs I saw so the only way this one might have sold was if they reduced the ADM fee to at least $15,000. In the East Coast, the demand might be high, but not as high as you think. I remember Hollywood (Florida) Toyota recieved a Morizo Edition and sold the same week. Al Hendrickson Toyota also had I think was a Circuit Edition also sold very quickly. Some may think the demand for Cores are higher since there are more of them out there, but really Circuit and Morizo Editions are the ones that get hit the hardest with ADMs. They know the buyers of these higher spec GRCs have money to burn so most of the time, they put significantly higher ADMs on these. Some dealers have tried to do this with the base Core, only to learn that this same trick doesn’t always work on the peasant version.

Yeah seems that I see more available with markups of even 5k If they were that hot of an Item they'd be sold. My 4Runner Pro and Tacoma Pro have waiting lists miles long, so strange these are available.

Oh yes! While my local Toyota dealership is MSRP only for in state buyers, the Honda dealership doesn't give a shit. They had a Type R at 10k over sticker and someone in California bought it the day it showed up on their website. Likewise our Nissan dealership has been selling the new Z at around 5k over with each allocation. Most C8 Vettes are also being sold at markups too.

It's literally everywhere and is quickly becoming the norm with these limited production enthusiast cars. It's harder to find a dealership that sells cars like this at MSRP than ones that attempt to exploit their customers.

I was watching several GRC and CTR delivery vids the other day and there are quite a few where people literally brag about ONLY paying 2-5k in markups. I see it on here too quite a bit. It's sad people have been Stalkholmed into thinking this is acceptable or okay.

look, it's not bragging. I know it's shit. no matter how much I kick and scream, they don't care. it's going to be quite some time before things normalize, if they do (they most likely will). I paid 2k personally which is unheard of recently in tristate area for 95% of dealers. I'd rather pay 2k and not deal with combing dealer after dealer and shitty salesman after shitty salesman. that amount of time and energy is not worth saving 2k. everyone has a diff number for themselves

if you wanna wait for msrp, go for it. I'm in line for 2 of them at MSRP still if I ever decide I want a circuit in the next few years or whatever. things should be sorted by then, I hope. but it's going to take many months and I want to have fun driving already

I already know some snarky mfer is gonna be mad at this, but whatever man lol. can't please everyone

It's your money and you are allowed to spend it how you'd like. While I could be very wrong about this, I personally believe most of the current markups are more of a hype tax right now. Just like the GR86 and Supra, these won't be super scarce forever, at least the Core and eventually they'll have a chance to actually hit lots amd stay there for a few weeks before someone buys one. While im sure that wont stop many dealerships from contining to charge ADMs, many will also back off since no one is in a rush to buy them anymore. This is when I expect I'll be buying my GR, unless of course I get super lucky and get called again once my dealership receives its next allocation.

So I don't hate people for paying ADMs, but I do see it as a waste of money that could have been avoided if they'd been more patient. If I hate anyone, it's the dealerships for doing this shit in the first place, but then again I've hated dealerships and car salesmen well before COVID and the insane markups we see now.

yes. i think "lack of patience" is a judgement that everyone jumps to very quickly. you don't know the person's circumstances/history/finances/etc. you don't know if that dude who just had to have the car now and paid 5k ADM has a chronic illness and he just wants to start having fun already. or maybe they've been stuck in complete old shitboxes forever and finally got a lucky break financially and they just want to treat themselves and start having fun. it could be that they know that they're old car is depreciating rapidly with economic conditions and any ADM is pretty much offset by that. take all of this with a grain of salt, but there's tons of reasons that someone would want to get in one sooner than later.

if i've learned anything in life - it's that some people are going to hate or judge you no matter what you do. in the end, nobody truly cares about yourself except for yourself at the end of the day. i could be the nicest dude and fair and honest but it fucks me just the same either way when people take advantage.

it totally is a hype tax. drift cars have had a "drift tax" since forever lol. i've had to deal with it for over a decade along with the rest of that scene. some stuff just has it and some don't. if it's a good product, supply and demand will work its magic.

one person's waste of money is another person's complete disposable income. ya never know

all that being said, absolutely 0 problem with anyone waiting for MSRP and all the hype to die down. you will get it and you'll have your own happiness :D

Need another 6-9 months for this bs to go away. It’s predatory selling based on new/hype. And buyers who have no patience. Same as it ever was on performance anything. Patience always win.
There is nothing predatory about it, no one forced me to buy my car. As soon as I saw the MSRP (and I had already come to a number in my head anyway, the MSRP was a bit under my expectation), knowing the volume they were planing, and knowing what I expected the car to be (an updated STIish car) I set a number over MSRP in my head that I felt the car was worth, if I could get it at an early date after release. Of course, if I had the opportunity to sit in front of a dealer I would negotiate for the lowest price I could get, and well, at the end of the day, I got it for about $1000 less than my number.

I'm sure there are people who go in without a plan and end up paying more than they were comfortable, or not knowledgeable, but you can't put it all on the dealers for setting their asking price at a price they feel the car might sell.

Predatory is when there's a hurricane coming and a gas station raises the price of their gasoline in response.

And at the end of the day, if your "not to exceed" price is lower than mine was, that only means exactly that.
