Found this to be interesting. The official JDM Toyota Gazoo racing website which covers all the GR badges vehicle specs and sales info in Japan has recently updated the GRC page. Beforehand, it stated that all JDM spec'd Morizo editions would be lottery only, and has since been updated with all GRC models (RZ and Morizo) will be lottery only.
Sucks for them, so complain all we want about how vehicle allocations are here in the USA for the GRC, but at least those at or near the top of the list are guaranteed a car (at least core model).
Also seems to contradict themselves stating the RZ trim will be available in Autumn of this year, but at the same time says the lottery for all GRC models will take place in Winter of this year. Dont know how a lottery for cars happens in winter, yet at the same time stating the RZ trim will be available in Autumn..🤔

They've been doing that since they released the GRMN Yaris, always a lottery system which is much better

I kinda wouldnt mind that for the ME, my chances would prob be just as good. If allocation, dealers and friend/family of dealers will have first dibs and likely scoop up most of them. And hopefully lottery would be done in way to control multi entry stacking and flippers buying up as many as they can. And control initial cost. Flippers will always eventually get one and their prices will be high, but at least initial should be MSRP.

Lottery system no different to any other way. Still ripe for abuse by flippers with multiple entries under relatives names etc.

If they combined it with a system that prevented flipping then yes I think a lottery system is the better way of dealing with the low numbers available.

In the Canadian Morizo lottery it has this following line in the terms and conditions:

(x) if the Prize winner exercises the opportunity to purchase the Vehicle, the winner understands and agrees that he/she cannot (and represents and warrants that he/she will not) resell the Vehicle for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase (if it is discovered by the Sponsor, using any evidence or other information made available to or otherwise discovered by the Sponsor, that the Prize winner has or has attempted to resell the Vehicle within the one (1) year period from the date of purchase, the Sponsor shall have the right to disqualify the Prize winner from future contests of the Sponsor, in addition to any other rights and remedies which Sponsor may have).

Obviously won't actually stop anyone from selling it but I'm sure Toyota will essentially blacklist them from everything they can.
