Probably a FWD detuned G16 right around 220-230hp and price right around $30k. That would be the sweet spot. Toyota did say they want to use the G16 in many models in the future. Would compete directly with the Civic Si and Golf GTi/Jetta GLI. Could even give it a 250-270hp G16 to compete with the Elantra N, Mazda 3 turbo, and WRX (to an extent).
Would make for a fun DD while the GRC moves to track/weekend warrior duty.

That Si range is the WRX range exactly. Lol. (Per Subaru)

All in all this is why I was originally saying Toyota probably will move away from the twins. At this point (if it’s true) they’re finally turning the Corolla nameplate into the “people’s” car similar to the Civic (different flavors for everyone). I’m happy it’s getting some love. Also will be a perfect option for everyone who thinks the GRC will be cheap. This is THEIR car 😂

I’m with you on this. If Toyota can push out a FWD G16 powered 6mt Corolla for near CIVIC Si pricing they should have a winner. I do see the GRC starting significantly higher, as much as that pains me but with severe production constraints there is no reason for them to resort to creative accounting to make the GRC inexpensive.
Edit: if Toyota does make a Si fighter, I’ll expect it on the Sedan body style if they send it to the US.

Yeah I expect it on the sedan body just to give it something exciting. The sedan is made in the US though which could mean we see them more.

My wife and I have an XSE hatch. I wish it had a turbo but it’s far nicer to drive than I expected it to be. It’s our first Toyota after years of VWs and a Subaru Outback. I really hope that Toyota can make several performance versions of the Corolla as it seems to be a capable platform.
