When I was talking to Kirk about the very first teaser, we were talking about how it’s like Toyota WANTED to find it so they can start dropping more for fun. When it’s revealed I’m sure Akio will present it. Then if it’s announced to be made in Motomachi, I expect people needing to reserve the car.

It's clever marketing if you ask me. I mean, they got us and every other Toyota head talking. But the real test will be when they start accepting reservations and how fast first year build slots fill up.

Well if it’s anything like the GR Yaris launch we’ll all be kinda screwed. lol.

Four door awd/fwd turbo cars like the GRC aren't uncommon at all, examples being mitsubishi's evo, wrx sti, focus RS, golf R, and civic type R. The only real "exclusive", kind of, one is the type R.

I'm not sure if this will be a situation like the GRY where it really is a special, somewhat rare kind of car, or lean more towards the wrx sti where every 18 year olds got one.

You guys have any thoughts?

Really depends where you live. I rarely see Evos where I live (it's always 10th gen Lancers) and I see the occasional Type R, Focus RS or Veloster N. I think it'll be along those lines because it won't be as cheap as a WRX but similar price as Type R, STi, and Veloster N. It may be less common since Toyota usually has that stigma of "yeah it's cool, but I could get ____." It's not in a price range most 18 year olds will be able to afford like any Focus ST, Fiesta ST, old WRXs or Evos. I'm sure it's not going to be that common as the other hot hatches but don't expect it to be some rare thing because afterall, it's not limited production and while it may be slow to get out, eventually a lot of people may have them

My take is that they are holding on to the last feeling of fall because come winter time, the FWD Corolla is going to suck in the snow. Hence the AWD GR Corolla that won't suck.

I agree with everything you said Wyn. I pretty much have the same conclusion. The thing that sucks is I imagine the GRC will continue production for many many years. It may just stay in the line up until Toyota can't keep it due to electrification laws and what not. It won't be anything exclusive if thats the case.

I'd love to see it have a two to four year run and just end there. Especially if there's no GRC face lift or evolution in, say, 4 years, this first year GRC will be that much more desirable.

It'll most likely keep going. They have the G16 with the GR4 and a hybrid system all ready for the 2022 WRC season so if they want to keep the hot hatch, they can just adapt the GRC to the hybrid platform (which I'd prefer over full electric anyway)

I really don’t think it’ll be 30k. Very wishful thinking. Wouldn’t be mad if it was but realistically it sounds like the classic toxic enthusiast wish of wanting everything cheap. 😂

In the grand scheme of things, people don’t actually know the GRC is coming yet, once you get the first real image, more people will obviously jump on board, then on reveal you’ll have a decent amount of people chomping at the bit to get the car. So we’ll see.

Yeah, I think 35-45K makes more sense in today's market with everything inflated. Right now, the GRC is still under the radar for most car enthusiasts. Look at the activity here, minimal traffic. The 400z forum, kind of the same thing.

I've joined Lotustalk this year when the Emira was announced and that forum had a lot of activity. That car is sexy. This car isn't, especially in the eye of most car enthusiasts. I bet it's loads of fun to drive and bulletproof.

The good thing about the the GRC is that those in the import car community are the ones who understand what Toyota is bringing to the table. In the U.S, Euro owners would piss on it b/c why get a GRC when you can get a Golf R with more HP, American car owners would laugh it b/c in their mind, Corolla's are eco sh*t boxes.

Absolutely. That's the beauty of Toyota and I grew up in a Toyota family; Celica, Corona, Starlet, Dolphin, Cressida, Paseo then my Tacoma and Supra. Now-a-days, the few times I take out the MKIV Supra, it's a lot of pull up next to me with a thumbs up, A-ok and drool factor. It's a conversation piece at the gas station and cars and coffee and talk to everyone that comes up and asks me questions about the car. They make their cars for a different purpose but since they do it so well, it allows room for improvement.

It's funny how their jaws dropped when I tell them how much I originally bought it for (pre 2012 before Paul Walker died). His death brought out buyers looking for a Supra that wasn't even on their radar but it was linked to Paul so they had to have it. Prices started to rising; new members started joining Supraforums inquiring the classifieds section WTB: Toyota Supra.

Plus millennials and gen z's are trying to relive the 80's and 90's so they want the ol skool cars from that era.

IMO, the unobtainable GRY for the U.S is helping fuel the want for the GR Corolla. That's the part I'm worried about b/c money talks and the car will be flipped more instead of being driven and enjoyed. I see it on a regular basis on the Porsche forums/classifieds with the GT cars.

Besides this G16E is shaping up to be a modern version of the 4AGE. Only thing I hate about even the GT/GR86 is the engine is kind of overlooked and forgetful in the grand scheme of the car, where honestly Toyota’s most legendary cars have a engine behind it that’s also legendary (LFA, LC, ISF, Supra, AE86, MR2)

The 86/BRZ is made in japan, it has some Toyota qualities for sure but the engine is forgettable comparably to the old car or even this new Corolla.
